Job Description
The Wedgewood Hotel and Spa is a distinguished member of the Relais & Chateaux collection, renowned for its commitment to luxury, elegance, and impeccable service. Located strategically at the corner of Hornby and Robson Street in Vancouver's vibrant shopping, entertainment, and financial district, this 83-room boutique hotel stands as a beacon of European-styled sophistication. Guests enjoy not only exquisitely appointed rooms and suites but also access to state-of-the-art meeting spaces and the award-winning Bacchus fine-dining restaurant. As a family-owned and operated establishment, the Wedgewood Hotel & Spa prides itself on fostering a positive and growth-oriented culture, focused on delivering world-class hospitality experiences.
The role of Director of Operations at the Wedgewood Hotel and Spa is a pivotal leadership position that demands a dynamic and self-motivated professional passionate about elevating luxury hospitality service. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, this individual will spearhead the strategic and daily operations across multiple departments including Rooms, Food & Beverage, Spa, and Events. The Director of Operations will ensure that every guest experience aligns with the prestigious standards of Relais & Chateaux and five-diamond service, maintaining the hotel’s status as Canada’s number one luxury hotel according to the 2024 TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best awards.
This role thrives on leadership visibility, requiring the incumbent to maintain a strong presence throughout the property to support operational teams during peak periods and special events. They will lead regular executive and departmental meetings to promote clear communication, align cross-functional teams, and rapidly address any operational challenges. A key aspect of the job is proactively gathering guest feedback and resolving issues with professionalism and care, all while implementing meaningful service improvements to exceed guest expectations.
The Director of Operations will also play a crucial role in shaping the guest experience by curating personalized services grounded in genuine hospitality, meticulous attention to detail, and a culture of warmth and pride. This person will recruit and mentor a results-driven leadership team, nurturing a workplace environment centered on accountability, engagement, and collaboration. Their leadership style should be approachable and inclusive, fostering trust and high morale among staff.
Beyond day-to-day management, the Director of Operations will collaborate with ownership and senior leadership to develop long-term operational strategies, including business planning and establishing success metrics. Partnerships with the Front Office and Revenue Management teams are essential to optimize key performance indicators such as Average Daily Rate (ADR), Revenue per Available Room (RevPAR), and overall revenue while enhancing guest satisfaction.
Financial oversight responsibilities include labor forecasting, budgeting, and expense management to ensure operational efficiency and achievement of financial objectives. As a respected ambassador of the Wedgewood brand within the luxury hospitality community, this role involves cultivating strategic relationships with industry partners, vendors, and stakeholders to uphold and enhance the hotel’s reputation.
Finally, the Director of Operations will prioritize building enduring connections with VIP guests and a loyal clientele to ensure ongoing satisfaction and retention. With a competitive salary range of $95,000 to $110,000 plus performance-based incentives and comprehensive benefits including extended health, dental, and vision coverage, alongside access to professional development opportunities and the global Relais & Chateaux network, this position offers an exceptional opportunity to redefine luxury hospitality in Canada’s top-rated hotel.
