Job Description
Spring Lake Park Schools is a dynamic educational district serving approximately 6,200 students in the suburban communities of Blaine, Fridley, and Spring Lake Park, located in the northwest metropolitan area of Minneapolis-St. Paul. The district is firmly committed to its mission of "High expectations, high achievement for all. No excuses," which ensures that every student receives a tailored educational experience designed to meet their unique needs. Renowned for its culture of innovation and creativity, Spring Lake Park Schools embraces human-centered design thinking, fostering an environment where educators and staff have the autonomy and flexibility to pioneer new methods of learning aimed at maximizing student engagement and success. The district's inclusive and progressive ethos makes it a forward-thinking leader in the education sector, with a strong dedication to equity and excellence across its student body and staff community.
The role of Director of Nutrition Services at Spring Lake Park Schools is a pivotal leadership position that oversees the comprehensive operation of the school nutrition program throughout all district sites. This full-time (1.0 FTE) position focuses on delivering strategic oversight and program leadership that supports operational excellence, regulatory compliance, innovation, and the professional development of nutrition services staff. The Director is responsible for designing and implementing policies and procedures that enhance the efficiency and quality of food service production, ensuring that every aspect of the nutrition program aligns with Minnesota Department of Health and Minnesota Department of Education standards. In this executive role, the Director manages a diverse team, coaching and evaluating food service managers to cultivate high-performing teams committed to providing nourishing, healthy meal options.
Additionally, the Director collaborates extensively with district administrators, principals, community partners, families, and students to continuously improve meal programs and processes. Key responsibilities encompass menu planning that considers student preferences and nutritional needs, maintaining food safety protocols, managing procurement and budgeting, and ensuring overall program accountability. This role requires a strategic mindset combined with hands-on management skills to sustain a nutrition program that not only meets health and safety regulations but also promotes student well-being and supports the district's educational objectives.
Candidates considered for this role should have a strong background in school nutrition program management, coupled with educational qualifications that meet or exceed Minnesota Department of Education guidelines. Salary for this important role ranges from $100,000 to $120,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications. The position offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, sick leave, 403(b) retirement plans, life insurance, long-term disability coverage, and flexible spending accounts (FSA). Spring Lake Park Schools values diversity and inclusivity in its hiring practices and is an equal opportunity employer. The successful candidate will contribute to a supportive, innovative, and student-focused work environment designed to ensure high standards of nutrition and health for all students within the district.
