The Director of Events at Hyatt is a pivotal role within the hotel’s Executive Committee, offering high visibility and direct interaction with senior and corporate leadership. Reporting directly to the Director of Sales & Marketing, the Director of Events is responsible for overseeing the entire Event Sales and Event Planning functions, ensuring that all events uphold Hyatt’s exquisite standards and contribute to achieving the property’s financial and guest satisfaction goals. This position involves managing and training a dedicated team of Event Managers and administrative staff, aligning the department's operations with broader hotel objectives and budgets. Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in hospitality management or related field
- Minimum of 3 years experience in hotel event sales and planning preferably in upscale or luxury hotels
- Proven track record of achieving and exceeding sales goals
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Exceptional customer service orientation and interpersonal abilities
- Ability to develop and implement effective marketing and sales strategies
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel
- Excellent communication skills in English both written and verbal
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross functional teams and hotel leadership
- Flexibility to work evenings weekends and holidays as needed
Job Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with people of diverse socioeconomic cultural disability and ethnic backgrounds
- 3+ years or more of progressive hotel event sales and planning experience typically with Hyatt preferably with an emphasis in event sales
- Previous hotel pre-opening experience preferred
- Service oriented style with professional presentation skills
- Hotel hospitality degree an asset
- High energy entrepreneurial spirit motivational leader effective communicator effective in providing exceptional customer service and ability to improve bottom line
- Clear concise written and verbal communication skills in English
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Excellent organizational interpersonal and administrative skills
- Ability to maintain communications with hotel leadership team
Job Duties
- Responsible for short and long term planning and the management of event sales and event planning including team and individual revenue contribution
- Develop and recommend the budget marketing plans and objectives and manage within those approved plans
- Maintain or exceed budgeted sales and profits in all event areas
- Develop and implement effective marketing plans for generating catering revenues
- Evaluate each piece of event business to ensure it can be properly serviced
- Monitor sales performance of event sales managers
- Put together creative and innovative menus based on skills of the kitchen
- Work closely with chef on pricing specialty menus
- Train supervise and work with event staff to solicit and book banquet and event functions as well as plan merchandise and execute the functions
- Work closely with banquet manager and their team to ensure quality levels are met and enhance banquet set-ups
- Lead event team to build long term value based customer relationships that enable achievement of hotel event sales objectives
- Administer all phases of the event department including sales planning marketing servicing and administrative procedures
- Coach and counsel employees to reflect Hyatt service standards and procedures
