Job Description

City Winery is a distinctive hospitality and entertainment company that seamlessly blends the art of winemaking with live music and culinary excellence. Established by music industry veteran Michael Dorf, City Winery has emerged as a celebrated national brand since 2008, delivering sophisticated and culturally rich experiences to its diverse clientele. The company operates unique venues that merge fully functioning wineries with intimate concert spaces, food and wine classes, private events, and fine dining, creating a truly immersive wine country atmosphere in the heart of bustling cities. Passionate about fostering community and creativity, City Winery stands apart by offering not only premium wines but also memorable live performances and elaborate culinary events, appealing to foodies and music enthusiasts alike.

The role of Director of Culinary Operations at City Winery represents an exciting leadership opportunity to oversee and elevate culinary efforts across the company’s extensive national portfolio. This executive position demands a strategic, hands-on leader committed to operational excellence and culinary innovation. Working closely with the National R&D Executive Chef, the Director is responsible for ensuring all culinary programs—ranging from menu rollouts and seasonal offerings to wine dinners and specialized dining experiences—are executed flawlessly and consistently across all locations. This role requires a deep understanding of culinary financial management including food cost control, inventory management, purchasing, and compliance with Department of Health regulations.

The Director of Culinary Operations plays a crucial role in mentoring and guiding Executive Chefs at each property, collaborating with General Managers to boost kitchen performance, elevate food quality, and drive financial results. This leadership position spends considerable time in the field conducting audits, offering coaching and development, and spearheading operational improvement initiatives to maintain City Winery’s high standards of quality and guest satisfaction. Additionally, the Director is integral in supporting new property openings, leadership transitions, and executing culinary strategies that balance profitability with an exceptional guest experience.

City Winery’s commitment to its employees is reflected in competitive compensation, comprehensive health benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance, and wellness programs promoting an active lifestyle. The company fosters a positive and inclusive work environment, providing opportunities for career advancement and professional growth. With an emphasis on collaboration across various departments such as Operations, Beverage, Finance, Marketing, and Private Events, the Director of Culinary Operations will be a key cross-functional leader who significantly impacts the brand’s culinary footprint.

In summary, this role merges passion for hospitality, culinary artistry, and wine expertise, offering an unparalleled career path in an innovative and expanding national entertainment and hospitality company. City Winery values diversity and equal opportunity, ensuring a welcoming workplace for all employees.
