The Director of Culinary Experience (Executive Chef) plays a critical role in maintaining and elevating the dining experience within Cogir’s communities. This leadership position carries full responsibility for culinary service operations, including food procurement, preparation, menu development, and the management of budgets covering food, supplies, and labor. The Executive Chef leads, trains, and supervises the entire culinary team—both back-of-house (kitchen) and front-of-house staff—to ensure high operational standards and regulatory compliance. This role demands creativity in developing menus that respect residents' preferences and dietary needs while also managing financial efficiency. Reporting on budgetary performance and maintaining inventory control are key elements of the position. The Executive Chef also coordinates special events and themed meals that enrich the community’s dining program and foster resident satisfaction. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Serve Safe Manager (Food Handler Certificate)
- Minimum 5 years food preparation experience
- Minimum 3 years executive chef management experience
- Ability to lead culinary teams
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation
- Strong financial and inventory management skills
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Culinary education preferred or equivalent combination of experience and education
- Serve Safe Manager (Food Handler Certificate) with knowledge of kitchen sanitation and food codes
- At least 5 years of hands-on food preparation experience
- At least 3 years of progressive management experience as an executive chef
- Experience with restaurant openings is a plus
- Experience with special events and banquets is a plus
- Strong team-building and financial management skills
- Creativity in menu development
- Experience in independent living, assisted living, memory care, senior living, or hotel operations is a plus
- Excellent communication and motivational abilities
- Passion for excellence and compassion for residents
Job Duties
- Responsible for the day-to-day operations and staffing of the community kitchen and dining venues
- Manages and supervises all culinary services staff, including scheduling, assignment, direction, performance review, hiring, and corrective action
- Menu planning and executing meal preparation and events, assisting staff with back and front-of-the-house operations as needed
- Maintain inventory control of food, beverages, supplies, and equipment
- Ensure that all food is prepared, stored, and served according to company standards and health code requirements
- Understand and maintain monthly and annual budgets for the culinary services department
- Collaborate with staff and residents to plan and develop recipes and menus tailored to residents' preferences and budgets
- Ensure resident and family member satisfaction is maintained
- Responsible for planning, preparing, and executing special events and themed meals
