Job Description
California Correctional Health Care Services (CCHCS) is a state-run healthcare system dedicated to providing high-quality health care to incarcerated individuals across California. As part of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), CCHCS oversees health care services in multiple correctional facilities statewide, focusing on both physical and mental health needs. The organization emphasizes evidence-based clinical practices, continuous professional development, and a supportive working environment, aiming to deliver outstanding health services within secure settings. CCHCS is recognized for its commitment to workforce diversity, inclusion, and employee growth, offering competitive salaries and comprehensive benefits to attract skilled professionals in health care and nutrition alike. The organization serves a challenging yet rewarding public service mission, supporting the wellbeing of vulnerable populations and promoting rehabilitation and reintegration through quality health interventions.
Currently, CCHCS is hiring Dietary Professionals for multiple locations in California, including North Kern State Prison in Delano and the Substance Abuse Treatment Facility in Corcoran. These are full-time roles offering competitive annual salaries ranging from $81,348 to $119,040. As a Registered Dietitian or Food Administrator working within CCHCS, you will play a vital role in planning, directing, and evaluating dietary services provided in correctional healthcare settings. The position involves interpreting therapeutic diets tailored to individual health conditions, overseeing safe food preparation and handling practices, and ensuring adherence to nutrition standards in compliance with regulatory requirements. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary clinical teams, including physicians, nurses, and mental health professionals to support the comprehensive care plan of each patient.
This role demands a high level of clinical expertise, analytical skills, and the ability to work effectively within a complex, fast-paced environment. CCHCS values innovation and research-based improvements in nutrition care, supporting its employees with ongoing education and training opportunities. Professionals joining this team benefit from a diverse and dynamic workplace, flexible scheduling options including potential work-from-home arrangements, and a supportive infrastructure that encourages career advancement. Moreover, working at CCHCS means contributing to a meaningful cause—improving the health outcomes of incarcerated individuals and impacting public health and safety positively.
In addition to competitive pay, CCHCS offers a wide array of benefits including comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance, generous paid time off, state retirement plans that vest after five years, 401(k) and 457(b) savings plans, relocation assistance for new state employees, and support with visa sponsorship for qualified candidates. The positions are based primarily at designated correctional facilities where you will be required to work on-site, engaging directly with the healthcare teams and patient population. This opportunity is ideal for motivated nutritional professionals who are passionate about public health nutrition and clinical dietetics in challenging but rewarding environments. Join California Correctional Health Care Services to advance your career while making a substantial impact in the communities served by the state correctional system.
