This full-time, exempt position is for a Diesel Vehicle Maintenance Manager, reporting at a senior level and requiring a minimum of five years of experience. The role is ideal for an engineering or maintenance professional with a bachelor’s degree who aspires to lead and inspire a team within a transit environment. The Maintenance Manager will play a vital role in overseeing the maintenance operations related to diesel vehicles and other transit equipment, ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations while fostering a positive work environment.
The Maintenance Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive vision and mission for the maintenance department. This role requires strong leadership skills to delegate tasks effectively among maintenance supervisors and to promote a diverse, inclusive, healthy, and respectful workplace culture. A key element of the job is to uphold stringent adherence to OSHA and other regulatory guidelines, ensuring safe operational practices throughout all maintenance activities.
In addition, the manager will administer all planned maintenance programs, including safety hazard training, regulatory compliance, and environmental stewardship. Partnering with safety, risk management, and continuous improvement teams, the manager will identify and implement process improvements that enhance operational efficiency and compliance. The role involves strategic oversight of budgets, resource allocation, and contract management to maintain vehicle and facility upkeep within allocated funds.
The ideal candidate will apply extensive knowledge of federal, state, and local transit-related laws and maintenance procedures. They must be adept at managing relationships across multiple levels of the organization as well as liaising with public officials and various agencies. The Maintenance Manager is also expected to manage emergency responses, approve capital expenditures, and support labor-management committees, demonstrating executive-level judgment, presentation skills, and negotiating abilities.
Working closely with training, safety officers, and operational leaders, the Diesel Vehicle Maintenance Manager will ensure continuous improvement and compliance with EPA, DOT, ADA, EEOC, and OSHA regulations. Job Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience in maintenance management
- Bachelor degree in engineering or related discipline
- Strong leadership skills with experience delegating tasks to supervisors
- Knowledge of transit vehicle maintenance principles and policies
- Ability to communicate with all levels of staff and public officials
- Experience managing budgets and capital expenditures

Job Qualifications
