The opportunity at Geisinger is for the position of X-ray Technician I, with potential consideration for higher levels such as X-ray Technician II depending on candidates' skills, qualifications, and experience. This role is pivotal in the diagnostic imaging process, where radiologic technologists utilize ionizing radiation to assist licensed practitioners in diagnosing and treating patients. The X-ray Tech I plays a crucial responsibility in performing a full range of radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures, analyzing and acquiring diagnostic data, and ensuring patient safety through adherence to federal and state regulations. This role involves preparing and administering medications as prescribed, educating healthcare providers and students, supporting specialized imaging procedures, and maintaining technical excellence throughout the imaging process. Job Requirements
- Graduate from Specialty Training Program-Radiologic Technology
- Relevant experience in radiologic technology preferred
- Current licensure or certification as required by federal and state regulations
- Ability to administer medications through vascular access as prescribed
- Competency in performing diagnostic and fluoroscopic procedures
- Knowledge of imaging protocols and patient safety guidelines
- Ability to work in various healthcare environments such as Operating Room, ICU, and Endoscopy
- Strong adherence to confidentiality policies
Job Qualifications
- Graduate from Specialty Training Program-Radiologic Technology
- Bachelor's degree in a related field of study preferred
- Proven ability to perform full scope radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures
- Strong knowledge of radiation safety and ALARA principles
- Experience with medication preparation and administration as per licensed practitioner directives
- Ability to educate and supervise students and healthcare providers
- Skilled in operating imaging equipment in various clinical settings
- Strong commitment to patient safety and care protocols
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills
Job Duties
- Ensures correct order is obtained, patient is properly identified and prepared for exam, and that clinical history is corroborated and appropriately documented while respecting confidentiality
- Utilizes appropriate imaging protocol and optimizes technical factors while maximizing patient safety, optimizing patient care, and applying principles of ALARA (As Low as Reasonably Achievable)
- Preparing and/or administering, as applicable, medications through new or existing vascular access site as prescribed by a licensed practitioner
- Evaluates images for proper positioning and acceptable technical quality and verifies archival storage and/or transfer of data, post processing of data if applicable
- Educating and monitoring students and other health care providers
- Assisting the licensed practitioner with fluoroscopic and specialized radiologic procedures
- Performing diagnostic radiographic and noninterpretive fluoroscopic procedures as prescribed by a licensed practitioner, including those procedures performed outside of the Radiology Department (i.e., Operating room, Endoscopy, ICU, etc.)
- Demonstrates commitment to department and organizational priorities
- Fully proficient in all assigned routine and complex job duties, including all procedures in the Operating Room
- Participates in modality quality or process improvement activities
