Job Description

Red Rabbit is a pioneering Black-owned school food management company dedicated to uplifting communities of color throughout the North East and Mid-Atlantic regions. Since its founding in 2005, Red Rabbit has been committed to transforming school dining by delivering high-quality, culturally relevant meals that not only nourish children but also affirm their cultural identity and sense of self. Serving millions of meals each year, the company operates in major urban areas including Greater New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC. Red Rabbit's work is deeply rooted in equity, dignity, and opportunity, making it a standout leader in school food services that truly values diversity and inclusion.

Red Rabbit employs professionally trained chefs who create thoughtful menus sourced from farm-fresh ingredients. These chefs work both in commissaries and onsite school cafeterias to prepare scratch-made meals that represent the heritage and lived experiences of the students served. The company goes beyond simply delivering food; it forms meaningful partnerships with schools and community stakeholders, ensuring that its food service is an integrated and impactful part of the educational experience.

The driver role at Red Rabbit is critical to maintaining the company’s high standards of service and operational excellence. Based in the Washington, D.C. area, this position supports the Regional Director and Head Chefs in the timely and accurate delivery of meals to school programs. The driver serves as a key point of contact for school partners, ensuring every delivery arrives punctually and in excellent condition. This role also demands exceptional customer service skills and the ability to manage logistics efficiently.

Ideal candidates for the driver position are punctual, detail-oriented, and passionate about promoting equity within urban schools through nutritious food. The role requires reliability for early morning starts at approximately 5:00 a.m. from Monday to Friday. Drivers must navigate complex city routes without depending heavily on GPS technology, demonstrating familiarity with Washington, D.C., and the greater DMV (D.C., Maryland, Virginia) area. Additionally, the successful candidate must have strong communication skills, a focus on food safety, and the physical ability to lift up to 75 pounds regularly.

Beyond delivery duties, the driver contributes to operational tasks that keep the food service running smoothly. They collaborate closely with school partners to foster cooperative relationships, effectively communicate any issues or feedback, and adjust routes or procedures when necessary. This role is vital to the company’s mission of offering not just food, but culturally significant nourishment that supports students' health and identity.

The position offers a competitive hourly wage between $19 and $21, with generous paid time off, comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) retirement plan option, professional development opportunities, and education reimbursement. These benefits reflect Red Rabbit’s commitment to valuing its employees while fostering a positive work environment. The role’s hours may vary depending on route requirements, with flexibility for early mornings being a plus.

Candidates who share a passion for improving nutrition and health in schools, especially within communities of color, will find Red Rabbit a meaningful and rewarding place to work. The company’s inclusive culture values diversity and is an equal opportunity employer, welcoming applicants regardless of age, race, creed, color, national origin, ancestry, marital status, or sexual orientation. Join Red Rabbit and contribute to a movement that nourishes both body and community, making a tangible impact every day in urban school environments.
