The Deli Clerk position at Sprouts Farmers Market is an exciting part-time role ideal for individuals passionate about food and customer service in a professional kitchen environment. As a Deli Clerk, you will engage directly with customers, helping them make healthy food choices by preparing fresh, ready-to-eat meals and specialty deli items. The role encompasses a variety of responsibilities such as operating deli equipment including meat and cheese slicers, ovens, and microwaves; preparing party trays and special orders tailored to customer needs; and maintaining the deli department’s cleanliness, safety, and sanitation standards.

Success in this role requires a strong attention to detail to ensure proper product rotation, packaging, and presentation, as well as the ability to maintain inventory accuracy by inspecting and logging incoming shipments. This position demands physical stamina to stand for prolonged periods and lift or carry products weighing up to 70 pounds over short distances. Additionally, Deli Clerks must be willing to work flexible schedules that include nights, weekends, and holidays to meet the changing demands of the business.

Job Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Have experience working in grocery, restaurant, or related field or acceptable combination of education and experience
  • Be dependable and reliable
  • Show an outgoing, friendly behavior with a positive attitude and ability to interact with customers
  • Work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Have good communication skills
  • Ability to take direction and participate in a team environment
  • Be able to answer phones and take special orders
  • Must be able to lift or carry product weighing up to 70 lbs, from 4 inches to 60 inches, for a distance up to 20 feet without mechanical assistance for up to 4 hours
  • Must be able to stand continuously for up to 4 hours, totaling 8 hours per shift
  • Perform general housekeeping including cleaning and sanitizing work areas
  • Operate slicer, wrapping, and cooking equipment and assist in maintaining equipment
  • Adhere to safety and health regulations
  • Achieve and maintain Food Handlers permit
  • Be able to work in cooler and freezer temperature environments
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Job Duties

  • Assist customers in making healthy food choices by preparing fresh and easy meals
  • Provide high level of customer service and ensure deli items are properly prepared, packaged, and presented
  • Maintain cleanliness of the deli department area
  • Fill, maintain, and rotate products and displays
  • Prepare special orders and party trays
  • Operate meat and cheese slicers, ovens, microwaves, cutting tools, scales, and other deli equipment following company standards and procedures
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary deli area and equipment
  • Receive, inspect, and log products for accuracy of shipment, temperature, and quality
