Colonial Materials, Inc., a proud member of SRS Distribution Inc., is a prominent national building materials distributor committed to delivering quality products and exceptional customer service. Based in Charlotte, North Carolina, Colonial Materials operates within the construction supply industry, offering a wide range of building materials to residential and commercial customers. SRS Distribution Inc., along with all its subsidiaries, maintains a strong reputation for valuing its team members by promoting a supportive work environment, investing in training programs, and providing ample opportunities for career growth and advancement. The company is recognized for fostering workplace diversity and inclusion, offering equal employment opportunities regardless of race, gender, disability, or any other protected characteristic, in alignment with federal, state, and local law. As part of its commitment to employee well-being, Colonial Materials offers competitive salaries, comprehensive benefits packages, and encourages a healthy work-life balance, making it an employer of choice in the building materials distribution sector.
The Delivery Driver role at Colonial Materials, Inc. is a critical position integral to the company’s logistics and customer service success. This position primarily involves operating commercial motor vehicles safely and efficiently in compliance with Federal and State transportation regulations, while handling the delivery of building materials to various commercial and residential project sites. The role demands a strong focus on safety, reliability, and professionalism to ensure that all freight reaches its destination undamaged and on schedule. Delivery drivers work as essential members of a team that includes warehouse staff and customer service representatives, contributing collectively to a world-class customer service experience.
Key responsibilities entail inspecting trucks and trailers daily to maintain roadworthiness, loading and unloading heavy building materials safely—often weighing over 80 pounds—and navigating delivery routes effectively to meet deadlines. Drivers maintain accurate records for regulatory compliance, manage incident reporting, and represent the company professionally in all customer interactions. A successful candidate must possess a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL), with Class B as a minimum, though a Class A license is strongly preferred. Excellent judgment, stress management, multitasking abilities, and clear communication skills are essential for overcoming on-the-job challenges such as tight delivery schedules and unforeseen obstacles.
Candidates must demonstrate physical stamina given frequent lifting and prolonged periods in a stationary driving position. Cognitive skills such as prioritizing deliveries, following directions, and resolving issues proactively add to the role’s complexity. Overall, this position provides an excellent opportunity for career advancement within a nationally recognized organization, with attractive benefits including medical, dental, vision coverage, retirement plans with company match, paid holidays, vacation days, and various employee wellness programs. The company culture emphasizes servant leadership, teamwork, and inclusiveness, supporting all employees in bringing their best selves to work while advancing their professional development. Delivery drivers at Colonial Materials, Inc. are pivotal to the company’s mission of delivering quality building products and outstanding service to their customers nationwide.
