The role of Day Porter is essential within CCS Facility Services, focusing on maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of common areas in office buildings, apartment houses, and other commercial or institutional properties. The Day Porter ensures that these environments are welcoming and immaculate by performing a variety of cleaning tasks, such as spot cleaning glass doors, polishing chrome surfaces, vacuuming elevator cabs, inspecting building exteriors for litter, and maintaining ashtrays across floors. The position involves regular inspection and cleaning duties that keep the building looking its best and ensures a safe, pleasant environment for employees, tenants, and visitors.

This role demands attention to detail, dependability, and a proactive approach to facility maintenance. The Day Porter will be expected to report issues such as burned-out lights or solicitors promptly to management and assist the building engineer as directed. The work environment may include exposure to outdoor weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, and occasional contact with cleaning chemicals, which requires observance of safety protocols and proper handling of equipment and materials.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • prior experience in janitorial or cleaning services preferred
  • ability to perform physical tasks including lifting and standing for extended periods
  • reliable transportation or means of commute
  • ability to understand and follow safety protocols
  • good time management skills
  • willingness to work flexible hours

Job Duties

  • Spot clean the lobby glass doors
  • polish chrome on lobby doors
  • vacuum elevator cabs and wipe cab doors, walls, and tops twice a day
  • inspect the building exterior and pick up any trash
  • clean ashtrays and sand urns on every floor
  • empty and clean exterior trash receptacles
  • check restrooms twice daily
  • vacuum lobby once a day or as needed
  • sweep stairwells and landings as needed
  • remove all debris from landscaped areas as needed
  • sweep building entrances
  • clean and remove smudges and marks on walls, doors, and wall covering
  • report any lights out (exit, directory boards, etc.) to the Management Office
  • report any solicitors to the Management Office
  • police lobby to keep floors and planters free of paper, debris, etc.
  • empty all trash receptacles
  • vacuum carpeted floors
  • dust mop lobby floors twice daily
  • polish elevator cab railings and doors and main lobby call buttons
  • assist building Engineer daily per Management discretion
