Job Description
This job opportunity is with a company located in Washington, DC, seeking a dedicated and hardworking individual to join their team as a Day Porter. The organization operates Monday through Friday with core working hours from 6:45 am to 3:45 pm. This role offers a starting hourly pay of $17.95, reflecting the company’s commitment to fair and competitive compensation. The hiring process includes mandatory pre-employment criminal background checks, government security clearance checks, as well as drug testing to maintain a safe and secure working environment.
The Day Porter position is integral to maintaining cleanliness, safety, and orderliness within the company’s facilities. Scheduled during daytime hours, this role provides an excellent opportunity for individuals who thrive in roles that require physical activity, attention to detail, and consistency. The ideal candidate will be active most of the time, standing for up to 80%, walking for 15%, and sitting briefly around 5% of their workday. Given the nature of the duties, physical fitness is essential as the employee must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, push or pull the same weight, and engage in diverse movements including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and handling objects. These capabilities are essential for safely navigating ladders and stairs and effectively cleaning various facility areas including low and high spots, benches, and corners.
In this role, the Day Porter is tasked with sweeping and mopping hallways, stairs, and offices, emptying wastebaskets appropriately, dusting surfaces, cleaning bathrooms, waxing and buffing floors, polishing fixtures, and ensuring all glass and windows are spotless. Additional responsibilities include washing vertical surfaces like walls, mixing cleaning solutions safely, maintaining equipment issued by the company, and snow removal from steps and sidewalks when necessary. The position requires excellent communication skills to interact with supervisors and co-workers efficiently. The Day Porter reports directly to the Site Foreman and is a pivotal member of the custodial team, helping to uphold the company's standards for cleanliness and customer service.
This position does not include supervisory responsibilities but does demand accountability and reliability. Candidates must successfully pass security clearance for designated contracts which reflects the sensitive nature of some work environments. Experience or training consists of at least six months in custodial or related services, underscoring the company’s preference for candidates who are not only physically capable but knowledgeable and experienced in cleaning and maintenance tasks. This job represents a meaningful career opportunity for those interested in janitorial and maintenance roles with consistent day shifts and a structured work schedule. Overall, the role emphasizes responsibility, physical stamina, and an eye for detail, aligning well with candidates seeking stability and steady employment in the facilities management field.
