The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) is a world-renowned public research university known for its commitment to excellence in education, research, and community service. Serving as a hub for innovation and diversity, UCLA provides a dynamic and inclusive environment for its students, faculty, and staff. One of the essential support functions within the university is its Custodial Services Department, which plays a critical role in maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and overall quality of the campus facilities. The Custodial Services team is responsible for managing over 12.5 million square feet of state-supported and client-requested spaces, catering to a wide variety of unique environments across the UCLA campus. These environments include specialized areas such as vivariums, recreational facilities, wet and dry laboratories, patient care areas, as well as standard office and classroom buildings. The department emphasizes teamwork and professional training to ensure that all custodians are well-equipped to provide the highest level of service to meet the evolving needs of the university community.
The role of a Senior Custodian at UCLA is vital in supporting the university's mission by ensuring that all facilities operate at optimal levels of cleanliness and safety. This position involves a broad range of custodial duties that require technical skill, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to customer service. Senior Custodians work with a variety of cleaning and maintenance equipment, including vacuum cleaners, mopping tools, stripping machines, waxers, buffers, and water pick-ups, to maintain floors and other surfaces to university standards. The position requires working knowledge of custodial cleaning techniques, as well as the ability to follow standard safety protocols and procedures. Effective communication in English is essential, as custodians must be able to read and understand written instructions, labels, and safety information, as well as convey clear and concise information to supervisors and team members.
Senior Custodians at UCLA must be dependable, able to work independently, and adhere to schedules that may include overtime, weekends, and various shift patterns to meet department needs. The role requires cooperative interpersonal skills to build positive working relationships with colleagues, supervisors, university administrators, customers, and visitors. This position offers a competitive salary range that reflects factors such as budget, experience, skills, knowledge, education level, and certifications. UCLA also provides a comprehensive benefits package starting from day one, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off, underscoring its commitment to employee well-being and professional development. This is a full-time custodial position within one of the nation’s leading universities, offering a stable career path with opportunities for skill enhancement in a supportive and diverse work environment.
