Job Description
UCLA Custodial Services is a vital department dedicated to maintaining cleanliness and safety across the University of California, Los Angeles campuses. Managing over 12.5 million square feet of combined state-supported and client-requested space, UCLA Custodial Services ensures that all facilities, including specialized areas such as vivariums, recreational centers, wet and dry laboratories, and patient care zones, uphold the highest standards of sanitation and environmental care. This department plays an integral role in supporting the daily operations of the University by providing consistent custodial services 7 days a week. It takes a committed team of skilled custodians, employing advanced cleaning techniques and machinery, to maintain the upkeep and hygiene standards that UCLA demands and its community expects. The custodians contribute not only to the aesthetics but also to the safety and functionality of these diverse environments, enabling research, learning, and recreation to flourish.
The Custodian Senior position at UCLA is crafted for an individual who brings experience, dedication, and a thorough knowledge of custodial operations. This role involves executing a wide range of cleaning and maintenance duties with precision to meet departmental standards and client specifications. Employees in this position are expected to be proficient with various cleaning tools and equipment, from standard vacuum cleaners to more specialized floor care machines like waxers and buffers. In addition to routine cleaning, custodians must work safely and efficiently, adhering to all University policies and procedures while managing different area types that may have unique sanitation needs. Communication skills are also key, as custodians are required to communicate in English effectively for operational instructions, report-writing, and collaboration with supervisors and team members. The Custodian Senior must be reliable and able to work independently, managing their workload to maintain consistent quality and safety standards. This role requires flexibility, including availability to work various shifts, weekends, overtime, and holidays to support the department's round-the-clock service model.
Regarding compensation, UCLA provides a full salary range with offers that consider experience, skills, and educational background. Benefits start immediately from the first day of employment, enhancing the total compensation package and reflecting UCLA's commitment to supporting its workforce thoroughly. This role is a perfect opportunity for custodial professionals who want to advance their careers within a prestigious university environment while contributing to a cleaner and safer campus for all users.
