Job Description
The YMCA is a globally recognized nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening communities through its focus on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Founded on Christian principles such as caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility, the YMCA strives to put these values into practice by offering programs that nurture the spirit, mind, and body for all individuals regardless of background. Their mission emphasizes inclusivity and the belief that a strong community is built by investing in children, health, neighbors, and core shared values. The YMCA is a place where everyone is welcomed, valued for their individuality, and offered support throughout their personal and professional growth journeys. They embrace diversity and encourage their staff and members to be catalysts for positive change within their communities.
This particular role is for a Janitor who will serve under the direction of the Facilities Director, contributing to the upkeep and safety of the YMCA's facilities. The Janitor position is integral to maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, sanitation, safety, organization, and visual appeal across YMCA buildings and grounds. This team member plays a leadership role in ensuring a healthy and welcoming environment for members, staff, and visitors, in alignment with YMCA policies and guidelines. The work schedule is Monday through Friday with two shifts available: 5 AM to 1:30 PM and 1:15 PM to 10 PM. The hourly wage for this role ranges from $16.50 to $17.50. The Janitor’s responsibilities include general cleaning, minor repairs, emergency response, grounds maintenance, and being an ambassador for all YMCA programs. They are expected to uphold YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility, developing strong relationships with others, maintaining alertness at all times, and participating in mandatory trainings. The role also requires performing equipment checks, stocking supplies, and assisting in maintaining safe and attractive facilities that foster a positive community experience.
Overall, this is a rewarding career opportunity with a cause, where doing meaningful work and contributing to the wellbeing of the community is at the forefront. The YMCA provides a supportive and nurturing environment for its employees, encouraging professional development and the chance to impact others positively. This role is much more than janitorial work; it is a critical part of the YMCA’s mission to serve and strengthen communities, making it ideal for individuals who want to be part of a larger purpose and work for a respected and impactful nonprofit institution.
