The Custodian role at Applegreen is a full-time position that plays a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of the travel plazas. This role significantly impacts the customer experience by ensuring that the facilities, including restrooms, dining areas, lobbies, and common areas, are well-maintained and welcoming. Custodians at Applegreen use appropriate cleaning tools, chemicals, and equipment to perform a variety of cleaning tasks efficiently. This includes cleaning toilets, walls, windows, worktables, refrigerators, and other necessary fixtures to uphold high sanitation standards.

Additionally, custodians are responsible for floor care including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and buffing to maintain pristine flooring throughout the plaza. They also handle the removal of trash and garbage to designated areas, helping maintain an organized and tidy environment. Custodians transfer supplies and equipment between storage and work areas manually or using hand trucks and assist with loading and unloading supply trucks when needed. Strict adherence to company-established security, sanitation, and safety procedures is a key expectation to ensure the safety of both customers and staff.

This job demands physical stamina as it requires standing and walking for extended periods, frequent bending, twisting, lifting, and carrying of loads up to 40 pounds. Flexibility in work hours is required, with shifts potentially spanning days, nights, weekends, and holidays to meet the operational needs of the travel plazas. The ideal candidate must also demonstrate a friendly and enthusiastic attitude, capable of interacting positively with both customers and coworkers. While prior cash handling and customer service experience is preferred, it is not mandatory.
