Job Description

Sweetgreen is a prominent national restaurant brand that champions the mission of building healthier communities by reconnecting people with real, fresh food. Since its establishment in 2007, Sweetgreen has revolutionized the fast food industry by prioritizing fresh ingredients, flavor, and sustainable relationships with farmers and local communities. Known for its innovative approach to fast casual dining, Sweetgreen blends health-conscious menus with smart, efficient kitchen practices to deliver exceptional food experiences without compromising on quality or sustainability. This commitment not only nurtures customer well-being but also fosters a positive workplace environment where employees thrive and can grow professionally.

Sweetgreen's operational philosophy centers around crafting food with care, using smart kitchens equipped without traditional grills or fryers, emphasizing safety and cleaner food preparation methods. The company is dedicated to cultivating an inclusive workforce and provides equal employment opportunities without bias, striving to maintain a fair and inspiring environment for all team members. Their participation in government programs such as E-Verify ensures compliance with employment eligibility standards.

The Culinary Lead role at Sweetgreen, also known as Kitchen Lead, is a vital position focused on maintaining the highest standards of food quality throughout the kitchen cycle. Unlike traditional management roles, this position does not involve scheduling or conducting performance reviews but is centered on leading by example in food preparation, cooking, and presentation. Culinary Leads are the resident food quality experts during shifts, ensuring every dish meets Sweetgreen’s rigorous standards for flavor, safety, and overall product consistency.

In this role, you will utilize your culinary skills and leadership to coach teammates, manage kitchen prep timing, and maintain par levels, contributing to smooth kitchen operations in a high-volume, fast-casual setting. By acting as the primary advocate for food quality during shifts, you will quickly identify and rectify any issues that arise, working collaboratively with Shift Leaders and Managers to uphold cleanliness, food safety, and operational excellence. This role offers a unique opportunity for those who are passionate about the art and science of food without the responsibilities of full people management.

Sweetgreen supports career advancement by providing a clear path for Culinary Leads who excel to progress to General Manager roles within two to three years. The role is tailored for individuals who enjoy being hands-on in the kitchen, take pride in delivering consistent, quality meals, and desire leadership opportunities that focus on culinary expertise and team mentorship.

This position is ideal for candidates with experience in fast-paced kitchens including fast casual, quick service, full service, or corporate dining sectors. Sweetgreen values individuals who thrive in environments focused on quality, consistency, and teamwork while seeking to grow within a company that values health, sustainability, and community impact.
