Job Description

Sweetgreen is a prominent national restaurant brand with a passionate commitment to promoting healthier lifestyles by connecting individuals with authentic, fresh food. Established in 2007, Sweetgreen revolutionizes fast food by prioritizing freshness, flavor, and deep-rooted connections with local farmers and vibrant communities. The company is renowned not only for its innovative menu options but for its dedication to fostering a positive workplace culture where employees can grow and thrive alongside the brand. Sweetgreen supports equal employment opportunities and inclusivity across all its locations and provides resources and accommodations to ensure accessibility for everyone. By joining the Sweetgreen team, employees help shape a future where food, community, and purpose intersect meaningfully, making a direct impact on the health and wellness of the communities the brand serves.

The Culinary Lead position at Sweetgreen — referred to internally as Kitchen Lead — plays a critical role in maintaining the highest standards of food quality and kitchen operations. This position is designed for those who are passionate about culinary excellence and want to take ownership of food preparation, cooking, and presentation without the responsibilities of managing personnel. Culinary Leads are the experts who ensure that every dish consistently meets Sweetgreen's exacting standards for taste, safety, and appearance during each shift. The role involves coaching teammates in real-time, managing kitchen workflow to handle high volume efficiently, and collaborating with Shift Leaders and Managers to uphold food safety and cleanliness.

Unlike traditional kitchens, Sweetgreen’s kitchens are modern and unique — free from grills and fryers — relying instead on smart systems and culinary craftsmanship to deliver outstanding food. Culinary Leads do not manage scheduling or conduct performance reviews, but they serve as the go-to authority for food quality during their shifts. This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy leadership roles focused on quality and process rather than direct team management.

Beyond the hands-on culinary responsibilities, Sweetgreen offers clear career advancement opportunities. Top-performing Culinary Leads often progress to become General Managers within two to three years, making this an excellent pathway for motivated professionals eager to grow within the restaurant industry. The company also provides competitive wages, tips where applicable, and a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance options for both part-time and full-time employees, paid vacation, wellness time, parental leave, and a 401(k) plan.

In joining Sweetgreen as a Culinary Lead, you will be part of a broader mission to reimagine fast food, advancing a healthier future for customers and communities while building a rewarding career grounded in culinary excellence and operational integrity.
