Job Requirements

  • Any bachelor's or higher and two years of experience in culinary arts or food technology
  • Any associate's degree and six years of experience in culinary arts or food technology
  • ServSafe Manager's Certification or equivalent preferred
  • Experience teaching culinary arts at college level preferred
  • Experience working in culinary or food service industry preferred
  • Experience using a learning management system preferred
  • Experience in curriculum development preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity and culturally responsive teaching
  • Ability to participate in professional activities and campus committees
  • Strong communication skills
  • Availability for onsite, online, hybrid, evening and/or Saturday classes

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher and two years of experience in culinary arts or food technology
  • Associate's degree and six years of experience in culinary arts or food technology or the equivalent
  • Experience teaching Culinary Arts courses at the college or university level
  • Experience working in the culinary or food service industry in large-scale catering operations
  • Possession of current ServSafe Manager's Certification or equivalent
  • Experience using a learning management system
  • Experience in curriculum development
  • Knowledge about or experience working with underrepresented students to reduce equity gaps
  • Teaching experience reflecting innovative pedagogy including active learning and culturally responsive teaching practices
  • Experience with development and teaching of distance education classes

Job Duties

  • Teach courses in culinary arts using various teaching methods including demonstrations, active learning strategies and lectures
  • Demonstrate and instruct students on safe handling procedures including proper use and care of equipment and tools in accordance with current industry standards and Health Department guidelines
  • Maintain records of attendance, census, grades, etc.
  • Maintain regular posted office hours and be accessible to students
  • Provide an environment conducive to effective learning
  • Assist in the development and implementation of curriculum, policies, and procedures for the program
  • Participate in campus governance and professional activities including committees, scheduling, leadership positions, and faculty meetings
  • Participate in staff development and continuing education activities designed to maintain currency in the field, pedagogy, and student support strategies especially related to equity initiatives
  • Work to achieve the college's institutional, program, and student learning outcomes
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with employees and others encountered in work
  • Demonstrate sensitivity and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students
  • Perform other instructional-related duties as assigned
