Job Description
The Clinical Quality Improvement (CQI) Specialist plays a pivotal role within a dynamic healthcare organization dedicated to enhancing patient care and clinical excellence. This organization operates in the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) sector and is committed to providing outstanding pre-hospital and clinical care through stringent quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives. The CQI Specialist position is a salaried, exempt role that offers a meaningful opportunity for a healthcare professional passionate about quality management, compliance, and patient safety to contribute to organizational success.
The CQI Specialist serves as a cornerstone in the organization’s Clinical Quality Improvement Program. This role involves a comprehensive range of responsibilities including clinical documentation review, regulatory compliance monitoring, data analytics, and performance improvement initiatives aimed at promoting clinical excellence and safeguarding patient safety. The specialist conducts detailed audits of patient care reports to ensure documentation quality and protocol compliance, investigates clinical and operational issues, and supports ongoing accreditation readiness efforts. Collaborating closely with field personnel, clinical educators, operations leaders, and the Medical Director, the CQI Specialist drives efforts to improve patient outcomes and elevate documentation standards.
In this capacity, the CQI Specialist develops quality metrics and reports, leveraging advanced data analysis tools and healthcare reporting software to identify trends, performance gaps, and actionable insights for quality improvement. The role demands meticulous attention to detail in handling clinical incidents, complaints, and protocol deviations while ensuring adherence to California EMS regulations, Medicare documentation standards, and organizational policies. By participating in root cause analyses and performance improvement reviews, the CQI Specialist helps address adverse clinical events effectively and recommends necessary corrective actions.
The position also includes oversight of complaint and incident management processes, requiring prompt response and thorough investigation of issues impacting clinical quality. The specialist works collaboratively across multiple departments including Clinical Services, Operations, Education, Compliance, Human Resources, Billing, and Executive Leadership to foster a culture of continuous improvement and ensure organizational objectives are met. They assist with employee certification monitoring, credential verification, and compliance with regulatory credentialing requirements. Through close partnership with Clinical Education teams, the CQI Specialist facilitates the identification of educational opportunities and the development of remediation plans based on audit findings, reinforcing protocol compliance and improving staff performance.
Demonstrating profound knowledge of EMS operations, clinical protocols, and regulatory frameworks, the Clinical Quality Improvement Specialist must exhibit strong analytical, communication, and project management skills. This role requires the ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining confidentiality and exercising sound professional judgment. The CQI Specialist works predominantly in an office setting but may occasionally travel to support operational or regulatory activities across various locations. This vital position helps sustain the organization’s commitment to quality, safety, compliance, and patient care excellence, serving as a key contributor to its overall mission and vision.
