Job Description

The Riverside County Sheriff's Office is a prominent law enforcement agency serving the expansive region of Riverside County in Southern California, covering over 7,300 square miles. Currently, the Riverside County Sheriff's Office is seeking multiple Correctional Senior Food Service Workers to join their food services team across various correctional facilities in Riverside County. This role focuses extensively on food preparation, overseeing inmates working in the kitchens, and maintaining sanitation and security within food service areas. The position is responsible not only for the labor-intensive tasks of preparing food but also for instructing and managing inmates who assist in the kitchen. Employees in this role ensure that meals are prepared timely and that food safety and sanitation standards are strictly adhered to; this includes monitoring kitchen operations and handling special dietary preparation needs for inmates.

Correctional Senior Food Service Workers must also conduct daily inspections to maintain cleanliness and security, document meal production and distribution accurately, and assist in the management of food deliveries and kitchen supplies. The role requires a rigorous attention to detail and the ability to work under a shifting schedule, including rotating shifts every four months. Shifts are either from 3:30 AM to 2:30 PM or from 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with working days alternating between Wednesday to Saturday or Sunday to Wednesday.

Candidates who are most competitive for this position will possess a current food handler's card and ServSafe certification, reflecting the emphasis on food safety and professional standards. The salary range for the Correctional Senior Food Service Worker position starts at approximately $20.31 per hour and can go up to $30.23 per hour, reflecting the level of responsibility and skills required. Additionally, a generous $10,000 hiring bonus is offered, distributed over five years with staggered payments based on tenure and successful completion of probationary periods.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • current food handler’s card

  • ability to maintain security and discipline in a correctional kitchen environment
  • physical ability to perform kitchen tasks including lifting and standing for extended periods
  • U.S. work authorization

Job Duties

  • Instruct and train adult inmates and/or assist cooks in operation of kitchen equipment
  • follow established security rules and regulations in kitchen area
