Job Description

Our client is a well-established food manufacturing company specializing in the production of sauces, condiments, and other shelf-stable products. With multiple manufacturing facilities located in Cincinnati, Ohio, and Baltimore, Maryland, this company is dedicated to delivering high-quality products that meet stringent food safety and regulatory standards. They take pride in their commitment to excellence and continuous improvement, striving to maintain a leadership position in the food industry through innovation and adherence to the highest safety protocols.

The company is currently seeking a Corporate Food Safety & Regulatory Manager who will play a pivotal role in strengthening and harmonizing the food safety and regulatory programs across their multi-site manufacturing operations. This is a full-time position offering a competitive salary range of $120,000 to $140,000 annually, plus a target bonus of 10%. The role reports directly to the Vice President of Quality and offers an excellent benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan with a 100% company match, paid time off and holidays, employer-paid life insurance, additional voluntary benefits, and potential relocation assistance for exceptional candidates.

In this role, the Corporate Food Safety & Regulatory Manager will be the corporate subject-matter expert and a key player in developing, implementing, and continuously improving comprehensive food safety programs aligned with SQF and GFSI standards across the company’s manufacturing sites. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with site-level Food Safety and Quality (FSQ) teams as well as cross-functional leadership to ensure adherence to FDA FSMA, USDA regulations, and relevant state and local food safety laws.

Key responsibilities will include managing food safety management systems, overseeing audit readiness for SQF, customer, and regulatory inspections, and handling corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to address any non-conformances. The manager will also oversee critical programs such as recall and mock recall procedures, traceability initiatives, allergen control programs, and claims substantiation. They will lead label review and approval processes to guarantee compliance with ingredient declarations, allergen labeling, nutritional claims, and regulatory formatting requirements.

Another crucial area of oversight includes the supplier approval program, which involves thorough documentation reviews, risk assessments, and ongoing monitoring to ensure supplier compliance and quality standards. The manager will also be responsible for preparing and maintaining FDA filings and other regulatory submissions, working in partnership with research and development, operations, and engineering teams to conduct HACCP and HARPC risk assessments for new product introductions, process changes, and capital projects.

Additionally, the Corporate Food Safety & Regulatory Manager will develop and deliver training programs related to food safety and regulatory compliance to enhance organizational knowledge and capabilities. They will also serve as the company’s representative in interactions with regulators, customers, and third-party certification bodies, maintaining strong communication channels and fostering positive relationships.

This position requires significant travel between the Baltimore and Cincinnati facilities, estimated at 25-40%, necessitating excellent time management skills and the ability to work independently across multiple locations. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in food safety and regulatory affairs within the food or beverage manufacturing industry, ideally with multi-site operational experience, and possess key certifications such as HACCP, SQF Practitioner, and PCQI or the ability to obtain PCQI within six months. Strong knowledge of FDA and USDA regulations as they pertain to sauces, condiments, and co-manufactured food products will be essential, as will demonstrated experience managing audits, inspections, and regulatory investigations.

Overall, this role offers a unique opportunity for a seasoned food safety professional to significantly impact food safety programs at a reputable and growing food manufacturing company, ensuring compliance, safety, and quality while supporting sustainable business growth.
