The Cook position at TSCTI involves preparing and serving nutritious meals and snacks according to established menus, recipes, dietary guidelines, and applicable health and safety regulations within a food service or institutional setting. Reporting directly to the Building Director, the Cook plays a vital role in supporting the health and well-being of children by adhering to USDA meal requirements, portion control, and accommodating dietary restrictions. This full-time role requires flexibility in work hours, possibly including weekends and holidays, emphasizing efficiency while complying with all health and safety regulations.
Ideal candidates for the Cook position are proficient in basic communication, arithmetic, food safety, and sanitation standards, and are also knowledgeable about child nutrition, food allergies, and record-keeping protocols. Key responsibilities include meal preparation for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks; maintaining a clean and sanitary kitchen environment; managing inventory and food supplies; interacting professionally with students and staff; and ensuring compliance with dietary restrictions and food allergy guidelines. The Cook is also responsible for maintaining accurate temperature logs and food usage records while supporting child safety and well-being during mealtimes.
Physical requirements include the ability to stand for extended periods, lift and move kitchen supplies and food items, and perform routine cleaning and sanitation duties. The role also mandates completion of First Aid and Infant CPR training to ensure a safe environment for children and staff. Job Duties
- Prepare breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and other food items according to approved menus, recipes, and meal plans
- Prepare food in appropriate quantities while maintaining proper portion control, quality, taste, and nutritional standards
- Follow all applicable food safety, sanitation, and hygiene standards, including proper food handling, storage, preparation, and temperature control
- Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen by regularly washing dishes and cleaning countertops, stoves, refrigerators, garbage containers, and other kitchen equipment
- Monitor food and kitchen supply inventory, maintain accurate counts, notify supervisors of low-stock items, and assist with receiving and properly storing food supplies
- Work cooperatively with kitchen staff, dietary aides, supervisors, and other personnel to ensure timely meal service and compliance with dietary requirements
- Interact professionally with students, staff, and other individuals while serving meals and accommodating approved dietary restrictions and food allergies
- Maintain accurate food and equipment temperature logs, document food usage, and follow established procedures for food waste management
- Support the health, safety, and welfare of children during mealtimes and maintain an accessible file containing food allergy and dietary restriction information
- Complete required First Aid and Infant CPR training
- Perform other related duties as assigned
