Job Description
YAI is a leading organization dedicated to supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Established with a mission to empower and enhance the quality of life for those they serve, YAI operates various programs and facilities designed to provide comprehensive care, skill development, and community integration opportunities. With a strong commitment to inclusivity and respect, YAI fosters an environment where every individual is valued and supported in their personal growth and independence. The organization is known for its professional and compassionate approach, employing skilled staff members who are passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of others. YAI's presence in Brooklyn includes programs such as Bay Ridge IRA 2 and Bay Ridge IRA 3, which focus on providing residential and supportive services tailored to individual needs.
The current opportunity is a full-time position located at Brooklyn - 361 83rd Street, with a weekly schedule from Monday to Friday, 11 am to 7 pm. The role is split between two floors and requires a professional who is adaptable, accountable, and able to work effectively within a team. The position involves a variety of responsibilities including maintaining cleanliness and upkeep of the facility, preparing meals according to dietary requirements, and ensuring the safety and wellness of program participants. Effective communication and time management skills are essential, as is the ability to follow policies and procedures diligently. Staff members are expected to actively participate in required trainings and be prepared to handle changing job duties based on operational needs.
This role offers a compensation rate of $17.50 per hour and embraces a culture that prioritizes fairness, transparency, and equity. YAI maintains a strict anti-nepotism policy to promote an equitable workforce. They are also committed to equal employment opportunities without discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status.
Candidates with work or life experience related to intellectual and developmental disabilities are particularly encouraged to apply, though such experience is considered a plus rather than a requirement. The position also mandates a tuberculosis test for most applicants. Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and communication skills, coupled with a flexible and proactive attitude, are critical for success in this role. Overall, this job presents a unique chance to contribute meaningfully to a respected organization while gaining valuable experience in a supportive and mission-driven environment.
