Job Description
The Retreat at Maple Ridge is a distinguished retirement community dedicated to providing exceptional residential living experiences. Known for its warm and inviting atmosphere, The Retreat at Maple Ridge combines comfort, quality, and personalized services to ensure the wellbeing and satisfaction of its residents. The kitchen team plays a vital role in the community’s daily operations, and currently, The Retreat at Maple Ridge is seeking skilled cooks to join their culinary team. Reporting directly to the Food and Beverage Director, the cook position is essential in maintaining the high standards of food quality and service that residents expect. This is a full-time role with a schedule primarily from Monday through Friday, with every other weekend required. The core responsibility of the cook is to prepare and serve meals in accordance with established menus and recipes, ensuring that all food meets or exceeds quality, quantity, and hospitality service standards.
The role requires a strong focus on food safety, sanitation, and compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations concerning food production and handling. The cook will not only be responsible for preparing general meal items but also be tasked with handling special dietary needs, including texture-modified foods and therapeutic diets. This requires attention to detail and the ability to adapt recipes to meet individual health requirements and preferences.
In addition to food preparation, the cook will manage various aspects of kitchen operations such as maintaining sanitary work environments, operating dishwashing equipment properly, and ensuring all cooking and holding temperatures are consistently monitored and recorded. Accuracy in record-keeping is crucial, as the cook will track equipment temperatures, food production quantities, and taste evaluations as part of regulatory compliance and service quality assurance.
The cook must demonstrate excellent organizational skills to coordinate food production schedules and service requirements effectively. They are also expected to uphold the confidentiality of resident information, reflecting the community’s values of privacy and trust. With a minimum of one year of job-related experience in food preparation and menu execution, candidates should have a solid foundation in culinary skills and a preference for culinary apprenticeship or training.
A High School diploma or GED is required, and having or working towards a SERV Safe certification or food services sanitation certificate is a mandatory aspect of the role.
