Job Description
Summit is a specialized food service company focused on serving correctional institutions across the United States. With a commitment to ensuring that incarcerated individuals receive nutritious and delicious meals, Summit plays a critical role in enhancing the quality of life within these institutions. By partnering with correctional facilities, Summit helps provide meals that meet strict standards for health, safety, and taste, all while maintaining compliance with regulatory and contractual obligations. The company operates within a challenging yet rewarding segment, where timely, efficient, and high-quality food service is crucial to the wellbeing of the facility's residents and staff.
Elior North America is the parent organization behind Summit and prides itself on being an equal opportunity employer. The company values diversity, inclusion, and equal access to employment opportunities regardless of race, sex, religion, or disability. Elior North America strongly supports employee development at all levels, offering growth and advancement opportunities that help individuals progress professionally. By joining Summit as part of Elior North America, employees benefit from a supportive working environment committed to fostering skills enhancement and career progression. This environment of growth and development is integral for building a fulfilling and sustainable career path within the food service industry.
The Food Service Supervisor position at Summit represents a full-time, onsite role based in Covington, Louisiana. This role is particularly geared toward candidates with prior experience supervising teams in food service settings, especially within institutional environments such as correctional facilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the daily production and serving of meals, ensuring all activities align with company standards and contractual requirements.
In this highly responsible supervisory role, the supervisor will provide hands-on leadership during meal preparation, cooking, and portioning, directly influencing the quality and service of each meal served. The position requires a keen eye for detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple team members effectively. Supervisory duties also include upholding rigorous food safety and sanitation standards, adhering to health codes, and ensuring compliance with internal policies.
Key characteristics for the ideal candidate include strong communication skills, interpersonal aptitude, and a commitment to high service and operational standards. Knowledge of food service operations and quality assurance is vital, as is the capability to work well under pressure and adapt to daily changes in menu specifications or production needs.
Candidates with advanced degrees in culinary arts or related fields, as well as those holding Food Handler’s certifications, will find this role especially aligned with their qualifications. However, hands-on supervisory experience and a demonstrated capacity to lead food service teams effectively remain paramount.
Summit offers a robust benefits package to full-time employees, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as voluntary benefits for accident, critical illness, and hospital indemnity coverage. Additional benefits include a discount program, commuter benefits such as parking and transit, employee assistance programs (EAP), 401(k) retirement plans, sick time, paid holidays, tuition reimbursement, and paid time off. This package reflects Summit’s commitment to not only the professional but also the personal wellbeing of its employees.
Working at Summit offers a unique opportunity to impact an important facet of correctional facility operations, contributing toward the health and morale of residents through quality food service delivery. The role is dynamic and demands dedication, a team-oriented mindset, and a passion for excellence in culinary supervision, making it an excellent opportunity for motivated professionals ready to lead in a rewarding environment.
