Job Description

Summit is a recognized leader in the corrections food service industry, dedicated to providing nutritious and high-quality meals to incarcerated individuals across the United States. With a strong presence in the corrections segment, Summit plays a critical role in ensuring that meal services within correctional facilities meet stringent standards for taste, nutrition, and safety. Partnering with Elior North America, a premier food service management company, Summit upholds its commitment to delivering excellent food service while fostering positive social interactions during mealtimes in an environment that promotes dignity and respect for all individuals.

Working at Summit within a correctional facility offers a unique opportunity to engage in a meaningful role that blends culinary expertise with leadership responsibilities. As a Cook Supervisor stationed at the Hillsboro, Oregon correctional facility, you will be an essential contributor to the well-being of the population served through food service excellence and efficient team management. This full-time, onsite position involves coordinating and supervising kitchen staff to ensure seamless daily operations, focusing on compliance with established practices and food safety regulations in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

This role requires hands-on management where you will instruct and train employees in all aspects of food service, including sanitation protocols, ensuring every meal service starts on schedule with carefully prepared food that meets Summit’s high standards for portion size, appearance, and temperature. The Cook Supervisor will monitor food preparation processes to guarantee quality and consistency across all meals served, fostering an environment where culinary craftsmanship thrives. This position demands a keen attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, making it ideal for candidates who excel in organized, high-volume production settings.

Candidates should bring at least one year of culinary experience within a quality, high-volume establishment that emphasizes scratch cooking techniques. A comprehensive knowledge of proper culinary methods, food safety, and sanitation standards is necessary to succeed in this supervisory role. The position also requires strong leadership skills, proven ability to supervise and motivate a kitchen team, and a customer-service-oriented approach, reflecting the company’s commitment to professional, friendly, and helpful interactions.

Summit values candidates who possess a Food Handlers certification, although it is not mandatory, it is considered a beneficial credential. The compensation for this role starts at $27.75 per hour, reflecting the importance of the Cook Supervisor in maintaining high standards of food service and operational excellence within the corrections environment.

The benefits package supports the health, well-being, and professional growth of employees, including medical, dental, and vision coverage for full-time staff. Additional offerings include voluntary UNUM benefits for accident, critical illness, and hospital indemnity, alongside discount programs, commuter benefits for parking and transit, Employee Assistance Programs, 401k retirement plans, paid sick time, holiday pay covering nine paid holidays, tuition reimbursement for full-time employees, and generous paid time off.

Summit, in conjunction with Elior North America, is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace where all employees have the opportunity to advance their careers and develop their skills. The organization welcomes applicants from all backgrounds and abilities and ensures equal employment opportunities without regard to race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or veteran status.
