Job Description

Summit is a specialized brand operating within the corrections segment, dedicated to providing nutritious and flavorful meals to incarcerated individuals across the United States. The company is widely recognized for its commitment to quality food services in correctional facilities, ensuring that meals meet high standards of taste, nutrition, and safety. As a key player in the foodservice industry for correctional institutions, Summit focuses on fostering an environment where food service contributes not only to nourishment but also to the well-being and social interaction of the facility's residents. This unique niche requires employees who are adaptable, reliable, and committed to maintaining these rigorous standards under dynamic, high-pressure conditions. \n\nBased in Kinston, North Carolina, Summit is seeking to fill the role of Cook Supervisor at one of its correctional facility kitchens. This is a full-time, onsite position within a fast-paced environment where supervising and coordinating a team of food service workers is critical. The Cook Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that meal preparation and delivery meet established standards, including aspects such as portion control, appearance, temperature, and adherence to sanitation protocols. By leading, instructing, and mentoring the kitchen staff, the Cook Supervisor plays a vital role in maintaining operational efficiency and the quality of food service provided to inmates. \n\nThe ideal candidate will bring at least one year's prior culinary experience in a quality, high-volume setting with an emphasis on scratch cooking. Strong leadership skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask effectively are essential, as is knowledge of proper culinary methods and food safety standards. Experience supervising a team is also required, as the role involves training staff on food service practices and sanitation. A Food Handlers certification is preferred but not mandatory. Compensation for this position is competitive, offering an hourly rate of $17.00 as well as a comprehensive benefits package that supports employee health and well-being. \n\nSummit is part of Elior North America, a company that values diversity and inclusion, offering equal employment opportunities regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, or veteran status. Employees of Elior North America are provided with ample growth and advancement opportunities, supported by a culture that encourages skill development and career progression. Applicants joining Summit can expect a supportive working environment focused on both employee and client satisfaction, with a strong emphasis on professional standards and social responsibility within the corrections foodservice sector.
