Elior North America, the parent company of Summit, stands as an equal opportunity employer that values diversity and inclusion. Elior offers its employees an environment that fosters personal and professional growth, providing opportunities for advancement across various brand segments and levels of operation. Employees at Elior benefit from a comprehensive development approach aimed at enhancing career trajectories and skill sets, backed by a supportive employer committed to equitable employment practices.
The role of Cook Supervisor at Summit’s correctional facility kitchen in New Orleans, Louisiana, offers an exciting and impactful opportunity for experienced culinary professionals. This full-time, onsite position focuses on overseeing kitchen operations within a dynamic and fast-paced institutional setting. The Cook Supervisor will play a critical role in coordinating and supervising food preparation teams to ensure efficiency, quality, and compliance with established culinary and sanitation standards.
The ideal candidate is someone with a solid culinary background and at least one year of prior experience working in a high-volume, quality-focused kitchen, particularly with an emphasis on scratch cooking. The Cook Supervisor is responsible for instructing and training kitchen employees, overseeing meal service timing, and guaranteeing that all food items meet stringent criteria for portion size, temperature, appearance, and overall quality. Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously are essential for success in this role.
Furthermore, the Cook Supervisor must demonstrate excellent leadership skills with experience in supervising teams in culinary settings. The role demands a high level of product knowledge and a commitment to delivering friendly, helpful customer service to support the broader goals of the correctional food service environment. Candidates with Food Handlers certification are preferred, although this is not a strict requirement.
Compensation for this position is competitive with a pay rate of $17.00 per hour, reflecting the specialized nature of the work and the experience required. Employees can expect a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision coverage for full-time staff, along with voluntary insurance options like accident, critical illness, and hospital indemnity plans provided through UNUM. Additional benefits include commuter benefits such as parking and transit options, an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), a 401k retirement plan, sick time, holiday pay supporting nine paid holidays annually, tuition reimbursement for full-time employees, and paid time off.
Working at Summit presents the unique chance to contribute to a meaningful mission within the corrections food service industry, where food quality and nutritional service impact the daily lives of a unique population. As part of the Elior North America family, employees enjoy a culture of inclusion, equitable consideration, and ample opportunities for professional development and career progression. This Cook Supervisor role is integral to maintaining the high standards of food service that define Summit, combining culinary expertise with leadership and operational excellence within a challenging and rewarding institutional food service setting.
