Job Description
The Oblates of the Virgin Mary (OMV) is a vibrant religious community dedicated to living out the mission of the church through prayer, service, and leadership. Operating in a close-knit family-like atmosphere, this community comprises priests, religious members, and seminarians who are committed to their spiritual and communal life. The community provides a tranquil and faith-centered environment that supports personal growth and development, making it an ideal workplace for individuals who value a purpose-driven work setting and spirituality woven into everyday life. It is a part-time opportunity, offering 20 hours of work per week, which is excellent for those seeking work-life balance or supplemental employment. Starting pay is set at $22 per hour, emphasizing competitive compensation for the role offered.
The role of the cook within this community is of great importance, responsible for preparing meals for a total of 19 community members, including priests, religious members, and seminarians. This position is centered around culinary expertise combined with organizational skills, as well as a humble and self-motivated approach to working independently in a well-equipped commercial kitchen. The kitchen includes two gas Wolf ovens, a flat top grill, a commercial broiler, and a commercial dishwashing machine, along with a full supply of cooking utensils, enabling the cook to deliver meals that are both nourishing and enjoyable. Planning meals is done collaboratively with the rector of the community, ensuring that dietary needs and preferences are met. This partnership allows the cook to contribute creatively while respecting the community's traditions and requirements.
In addition to meal preparation, the cook will take charge of maintaining the organization and cleanliness of the pantry, kitchen, walk-in cooler, and dining room. This responsibility helps to uphold a hygienic and orderly environment, essential in any commercial kitchen setting. Given that much of the work will be done independently, the ideal candidate must possess qualities such as proactivity, humility, and a strong commitment to their role. Being self-motivated is critical, as is the willingness to receive constructive feedback from the rector and make necessary adjustments to the cooking and kitchen management practices.
This part-time position offers more than just a job; it is an opportunity to be part of a mission-driven community that fosters servant leadership and collaboration. The environment is enriched with daily spiritual practices, including Mass, confession, and Adoration available on-site, providing a unique and supportive atmosphere for personal and professional growth. The role is ideally suited to someone who wants to contribute to a loving community, using their culinary skills to enhance the daily lives of others while aligning with the mission and values of the Oblates of the Virgin Mary and the gospel.
