Job Description

UAB Medicine is Alabama's largest and most comprehensive health system, nationally recognized for delivering world-class patient care, pioneering research, and advanced medical education. Serving more than 1.2 million patients annually across Alabama and beyond, UAB Medicine boasts a network that includes numerous hospitals, emergency departments, over 67 sites of care, and a team of more than 3,100 physicians. Key facilities include UAB Hospital, the No. 1 hospital in Alabama by U.S. News & World Report, which houses the state's first ACS-verified Level I adult trauma center and is the only Magnet-designated hospital in the state. In addition, the health system encompasses UAB Hospital-Callahan Eye and five UAB St. Vincent's hospitals, ensuring comprehensive care across central Alabama.

UAB Medicine offers a variety of practice environments ranging from an internationally renowned academic medical center to award-winning community hospitals and specialty care clinics statewide. This diversity allows employees to find the right fit for their career goals, whether they prefer the fast-paced atmosphere of tertiary care or a close-knit community facility. The organization fosters a mission-driven culture committed to delivering life-changing care and supports growth with unlimited opportunities across nearly every medical specialty. Employees benefit from comprehensive, industry-leading packages tailored to meet individual preferences and circumstances.

The Food & Nutrition Services team at UAB Hospital facilities is dedicated to feeding over 1,400 patients three meals daily while managing the hospital food court and multiple dining rooms throughout the medical campus. Annually, the team serves approximately 4.5 million meals to patients, staff, and guests. With a dedicated team of more than 400 members, the department plays a crucial role in ensuring the nutritional needs of the hospital community are met with care and precision.

The Food Preparation role within this department is a full-time position with shifts available from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 12:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The pay range for this role is between $16.50 to $26.80 per hour. The position entails preparing food items for patients, children, visitors, and staff utilizing specialized equipment. Clear communication with supervisors about recipe and production issues is an essential part of the job. Additionally, the role may involve developing and implementing USDA-compliant menus for children up to 60 months old.

The position offers robust educational assistance programs, generous paid time off, employee assistance and wellness initiatives, paid parental leave, and eligibility for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program. These benefits help support the work-life balance and professional growth of staff members, making UAB Medicine a compelling place to build a career in healthcare food services.
