Through a commitment to excellence and adherence to stringent health and safety standards, Forefront Healthcare ensures that every meal not only satisfies nutritional requirements but also enhances overall wellbeing and satisfaction.
Located in Columbus, Georgia, the position of Cook is based in an upscale Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) facility. This role is instrumental in maintaining the high standards of food preparation and patient safety that Forefront Healthcare upholds. The Cook is responsible for preparing meals in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, as well as adhering to the company’s established policies and procedures. This position requires a robust knowledge of food safety, quality control, and customer service within a healthcare dietary setting.
The Cook assists with meal preparation for patients, family members, and employees, demonstrating versatility and collaboration within the culinary team. Working under the direction of the Director of Culinary, the Cook performs essential tasks including following standardized recipes, maintaining portion control, and ensuring attractive presentation of meals. The role demands meticulous attention to detail, as the Cook must monitor temperatures of hot and cold foods throughout preparation and service to meet stringent safety and quality standards.
The position also includes responsibilities such as completing daily production worksheets, logging waste, and conducting quality checks by tasting meals. In the absence of the Director of Culinary, the Cook may be called upon to inspect food products and supplies upon delivery and assist with the storage and organization of ingredients and supplies. Communication with the Director of Culinary is vital to report equipment needs, maintenance issues, and any unsafe conditions to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
Compliance with federal, state, and local health and sanitation regulations is paramount for this role. The Cook actively participates in maintaining hygiene standards to pass local health department inspections and third-party audits. Beyond technical skills, the Cook must exhibit excellent customer service competencies, demonstrating patience and tolerance towards staff, patients, and family members. A flexible work schedule is also an important aspect of this position, as the Cook needs to be available to work during emergencies or outside typical hours as needed.
Education and experience requirements include the ability to read, write, and speak English proficiently, with a preference for candidates who have graduated from high school or possess equivalent education. Experience in healthcare dietary settings and food and beverage operations is highly desirable. Candidates with training in quantity cooking and therapeutic diets are particularly valued. The role is physically demanding, requiring the ability to stand and walk intermittently, perform lifting of up to 75 pounds, and handle cleaning agents safely.
Forefront Healthcare offers a competitive hourly wage of $11.00 to $12.00 for this full-time Cook position, alongside opportunities for professional growth within a supportive and dynamic healthcare culinary environment.
