Job Description
Fridley Public Schools is a distinguished school district recognized for its commitment to academic excellence and international-mindedness through the International Baccalaureate (IB) World Schools program. As the only school district in Minnesota and one of the few in the United States offering the full IB Continuum for students from pre-K through grade 12, Fridley Public Schools fosters a world-class community dedicated to lifelong learning and global citizenship. The district’s mission is to cultivate skills that enable students to realize their full potential within a diverse and inclusive environment. This dedication is reflected in the district’s core values, which emphasize the importance of diversity, inclusion, and equitable educational opportunities for all students, ensuring that every learner feels valued and supported on their journey toward becoming responsible and productive members of society.
The role of Cook Manager at Fridley Middle School is a critical position within the Nutritional Services department, centered on delivering nutritious, appealing meals in compliance with USDA National School Breakfast and Lunch program standards. This position involves comprehensive management responsibilities, including participation in food preparation and cooking, overseeing kitchen operations, ensuring the maintenance of a clean and welcoming environment, and supervising nutritonal services staff. The Cook Manager will also manage inventory, order supplies, and uphold stringent food safety standards, necessitating strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
Serving a richly diverse student population, the Cook Manager must exhibit excellent customer service skills and effective communication, especially when interacting with families from various cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Working independently in a dynamic, fast-paced school environment requires problem-solving capabilities and the ability to multitask efficiently. The position follows a schedule of 7.75 hours per day from Monday through Friday during the school year, based onsite at Fridley Middle School.
Compensation for this role ranges from $25.75 per hour at Step 1 to $28.64 per hour at Step 5, with placement depending on education and experience. The successful candidate will bring at least three years of quantity food service experience, preferably in school or healthcare settings, and two years of supervisory or managerial experience. The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with preferences given to those holding Level 4 certification and valid ServSafe or Minnesota Certified Food Protection Manager credentials, which must be obtained within the first year of appointment.
This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by contributing to the well-being and nutritional health of students while supporting an inclusive and mission-driven educational community. Fridley Public Schools encourage candidates with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion to apply, fostering an environment where all employees and students can thrive and succeed.
