The Cook II position at Desert Diamond Casino is a full-time opportunity based in the Glendale, AZ location. This role is integral to the successful functioning of the casino’s Food & Beverage department. Reporting directly to the Assistant Sous Chef, the Cook II is responsible for a wide range of kitchen tasks including food preparation, cooking a variety of menu items, stock management, and maintaining cleanliness of work areas and kitchen equipment. Starting pay for this role ranges from $16.26 to $21.42 per hour, reflecting the level of skill and experience required. As a Cook II, you will handle standardized recipes, utilize proper cooking techniques and knife skills, and ensure that all food products meet the highest standards of quality and safety. The role demands an understanding of food safety regulations and adherence to health codes, alongside maintaining an organized and sanitized workspace.

Job Requirements
- High school degree or GED preferred
- One year of recent experience as a cook or prep cook or equivalent combination of recent experience and education
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- No felony, theft or stealing convictions
- Able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation
- Must obtain and maintain a gaming license
- Ability to obtain a Food Handlers card
- Ability to obtain TIPS certification
- Ability to communicate, read, and write clearly in basic English
- Ability to work in a busy, fast-paced environment
- Ability to follow all tribal, city, state and federal health/food safety regulations and codes
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 pounds, and perform repetitive hand movements
- Willingness to work evenings, graveyards, holidays, weekends, and extended or irregular shifts
- Ability to operate kitchen equipment safely and maintain cleanliness and organization
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Minimum of 1 year recent experience as a cook or prep cook or equivalent combination of recent experience and education
- Ability to obtain a Food Handlers card
- Ability to obtain TIPS certification
- Knowledge of kitchen equipment, utensils, tools and machinery
- Knowledge of safe practices in a kitchen-working environment
- Knowledge of basic foods and their uses
- Knowledge of all food safety regulations
- Ability to communicate, read, and write clearly in basic English
- Ability to demonstrate outstanding guest service at all times
- Ability to work in a busy, fast-paced environment
- Ability to perform in a professional appearance and manner
- Ability to be organized and coordinate tasks among co-workers
- Ability to safely use and administer cleaning equipment and supplies
- Ability to learn culinary methods, techniques and principles

Job Duties
- Cook and prepare a variety of foods, quantities, styles, according to the menu and demand of the business
- Use and or learn proper knife skills, cooking techniques, cooking methods and terminology
- Read, understand and follow standardized recipes when preparing all foods for all food venues and outlets
- Understand and follow through with all assigned tasks
- Communicate with Assistant Sous Chef
- Maintain and communicate with Assistant Sous Chef regarding the foods/products needed to ensure safe par levels and proper stock levels
- Maintain a clean, organized and sanitized work area while following all tribal, city, state and federal health/food safety regulations and codes
- Ensure all areas of their assigned venue/outlet/kitchen are taken care of and all assigned duties are completed
- Ensure all venues are completely ready to open by designated time set by management
- Manage all food/storage areas (refrigeration, freezer, and dry storage) to keep clean, organized, labeled and dated
- Keep equipment, tools, floors, work stations and food prep areas clean, organized and free from clutter, trash and non-approved items
- Demonstrate Desert Diamond Casino “On Brand” attitude towards team members and guests at all times
- Display, support and reinforce Desert Diamond Casino’s Spirit of Service Standards
- Work according to established procedures of the Casino
- Communicate well with team members maintaining a positive and professional work environment
- Contribute to a team effort and accomplish all tasks
- Perform other duties as required
