The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas is currently seeking a Cook I to join their team through Sodexo's food service operations. This is a full-time position offering an hourly wage between $14 and $16. The role involves working primarily morning weekday shifts, with additional details to be provided during the interview process. As a Cook I, you will be responsible for preparing, portioning, cooking, and presenting a variety of hot and cold food items to meet Sodexo's culinary standards focused on quality, presentation, and consistency. Your role will be essential in supporting the dining experience at the medical center, ensuring food safety and sanitation standards are rigorously followed.

This position requires working in a fast-paced kitchen environment where efficient and accurate food preparation is paramount. Duties include following recipes and product directions for seasoning, cooking, tasting, and serving soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, and more. You will also be responsible for estimating food requirements, checking production, and maintaining clean and organized workstations. Physical demands include significant walking and mobility throughout the shift, the ability to stand for extended periods often exceeding eight hours, and the capacity to lift and move heavy items up to 50 pounds occasionally. Consistent attendance and punctuality are critical, along with the flexibility to undertake other duties as business needs evolve.

Job Duties

  • Prepare food in accordance with current applicable federal, state and corporate standards, guidelines, and regulations to ensure high-quality food service is provided
  • Follow basic recipes and/or product directions for preparing, seasoning, cooking, tasting, carving, and serving soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, and other foodstuffs for consumption in eating establishments
  • Taste products, read menus, estimate food requirements, check production, and keep records to accurately plan production requirements and requisition supplies and equipment
  • Maintain a clean and organized workstation
  • Ensure food safety and sanitation standards are upheld
  • Attend work and show for scheduled shift on time with satisfactory regularity
  • Perform other duties as assigned and can differ among accounts, depending on business necessities and client requirements
