Job Description

The Resort at Pelican Hill, located in Newport Beach, California, is a luxurious destination renowned for its exquisite setting and exceptional service within the hospitality industry. It operates as part of the prestigious portfolio of Marriott International, a global leader in the hotel and resort sector, known for delivering outstanding guest experiences through a blend of timeless glamour and modern sophistication. This resort emphasizes providing high-standard amenities and personalized services, making it a notable landmark in the Food and Beverage and Culinary category of jobs. The location offers an extraordinary environment created to cater to guests seeking premium hospitality and culinary excellence in an upscale setting.

This full-time, non-management seasonal position based at The Resort at Pelican Hill involves a critical role within the Banquets division of their culinary team. The role is essential in preparing and maintaining high-quality food items to meet the resort's exacting standards. The hourly pay rate is specified at $30.00, reflecting the value and responsibilities associated with this position. The candidate will work on-site at the resort, contributing directly to the dynamic food service operations and guest experience.

The position's central responsibilities include preparing special meals and substitute food items, regulating cooking equipment such as ovens, broilers, grills, and roasters to ensure proper food preparation, and managing the thawing of items from freezer storage. Attention to detail is paramount, as the role demands consistent adherence to portion control, food arrangement, and garnishing to maintain visual and taste standards that patrons of The Resort at Pelican Hill expect.

The role also involves maintaining meticulous food logs to track quality and quantity, providing communication efficiently to kitchen management and the service team regarding menu specials, shortages, and updates, and ensuring compliance with food safety protocols and presentation criteria. This position requires the preparation of both hot and cold food items, aligning with established recipes and preparation checklists.

In addition to culinary duties, the role supports management in various operational areas, including hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating, counseling, disciplining, and motivating employees. The individual serves as a role model within the team, promoting a collaborative work environment and upholding company policies, safety standards, and security procedures. They must report any maintenance issues, accidents, injuries, or unsafe conditions promptly to management. Adherence to uniform and personal appearance guidelines is also required to maintain professional standards.

Effective communication skills are critical, as the role demands clear interaction with team members and the ability to respond appropriately to both employees and guests. Building positive working relationships and teamwork is a key focus, contributing to the overall goal of delivering outstanding service and quality. Physical demands include standing, sitting, or walking for extended periods and performing movements such as bending, twisting, pulling, stooping, and lifting objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

The opportunity is ideal for individuals with a technical, trade, or vocational school degree and at least three years of relevant work experience. While supervisory experience is not required, the position welcomes candidates eager to grow and contribute within a high-profile luxury resort environment. Marriott International strives for an inclusive and diverse workforce, ensuring equal opportunity and a supportive workplace culture. Joining The Resort at Pelican Hill means becoming part of a global team dedicated to excellence, personal growth, and delivering unique guest experiences with the distinguished service hallmark of St. Regis Hotels & Resorts, a finalist brand under Marriott International.
