The Cook position at MH Restaurants plays a vital role in preparing food for the restaurants, employee meals, catering, and special functions. This position requires expertise in producing food that meets the highest quality standards and complies with sanitary and safety regulations. The Cook will assist the General Manager in executing the menu and maintaining a safe work environment in the kitchen. The position offers competitive pay ranging from $13 to $18 per hour, alongside comprehensive benefits including paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short and long-term disability, and a 401K plan. The role demands a commitment to quality, adherence to portion controls, and the ability to accommodate special guest requests. The successful candidate will demonstrate proficient cooking skills, equipment knowledge, and an ability to follow safety and sanitation standards. The Cook will also be responsible for daily cleaning tasks, inventory support, adherence to uniform and dress code standards, and participation in company training and meetings. This position requires flexibility in scheduling, including evenings, weekends, and some holidays, emphasizing reliability, ethical behavior, and teamwork to uphold the MH Restaurants brand and deliver outstanding guest satisfaction.

Job Requirements

  • Valid Food Handler Certificate required
  • Able to understand English and follow simple verbal direction
  • Must be able to work nights weekends and some holidays
  • Flexible schedule helpful
  • Ability to speak and hear
  • Ability to work in standing position for long periods up to 8 hours
  • Ability to reach bend stoop and frequently lift up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift or move 50 pounds
  • Familiarity with safety sanitation and food handling procedures
  • Previous prep or line cook experience
  • Detail orientated and organized
  • Commitment to quality and safety standards

Job Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of production and operations in all relevant kitchen areas
  • Must be familiar with proper use and cleaning of relevant kitchen equipment and machinery
  • Basic knowledge of soups stocks and sauces
  • Proficient knowledge of saute9ing culling broiling poaching boiling steaming and braising
  • Proficient knife handling skills
  • Understanding and knowledge of safety sanitation and food handling procedures
  • Able to understand English and follow simple verbal direction
  • Previous prep or line cook experience
  • Detail orientated

Job Duties

  • Properly and efficiently prepare and present all food items to be served including accommodating special guest requests
  • Review menus prior to preparation of food and ensure that menus are followed
  • Serve food in accordance with established portion control procedures
  • Rotate food in walk-ins and freezers to minimize waste and spoilage
  • Prepare food in accordance with sanitary regulations as well as established policies and procedures
  • Follow established sanitation controls and standard precautions policies and procedures when performing daily tasks
  • Assist as directed in ordering necessary food supplies
  • Follow all specifications and properly set up hot and cold line stations
  • Ensure that safety regulations for equipment are followed
  • Assist or direct daily or scheduled cleaning duties in accordance with established policies and procedures
  • Dispose of food and waste in accordance with established policies
  • Keep floors clean and dry and clean up spills as soon as possible
  • Report hazardous conditions equipment and any accidents or incidents to your supervisor immediately
  • Know the location and purpose of Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
  • Assist in inventorying and storing incoming food and supplies as necessary
  • Follow all policies and procedures of MH Restaurants
  • Attend all mandatory meetings as directed
  • Perform other tasks including cross-training as directed
  • Maintain dress code and uniform standard
  • Complete required training assigned through the company training portal
  • Adhere to consistent and reliable work schedule
  • Demonstrate ethical business practices and integrity in all interactions to uphold the MH Restaurants group brand
  • Effectively perform duties and responsibilities in a safe manner
  • Other duties as assigned
