The Cook Helper position reports directly to the Food Services Supervisor and serves a vital role within the Food Services team. This non-exempt role focuses on assisting cooks in daily food preparation, serving, and maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of both the dining facility and kitchen. Responsibilities include setup and breakdown of serving lines, replenishing supplies, rotating perishables, and supporting food preparation tasks such as washing and cutting vegetables, breading food items, and stirring sauces. The role also involves cleaning and sanitizing kitchen equipment and work surfaces, managing waste disposal, and ensuring safe storage of ingredients according to temperature requirements.
The Cook Helper must operate kitchen equipment like dishwashers, slicers, and mixers, while strictly following safety and sanitary regulations related to food handling. This role contributes to creating a pleasant dining experience by serving students, staff, and guests efficiently and courteously. Candidates must possess strong organizational and communication skills, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and maintain professional conduct in alignment with The Bizzell Group's core values and policies. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One to three months food service or preparation experience
- NRA food service sanitation or equivalent certification
- Valid state driver’s license
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to follow safety and sanitary regulations
- Must maintain proper attire and personal hygiene
- Ability to perform physical demands such as standing, walking, reaching, talking, listening
- Willingness to participate in mandated staff training
Job Qualifications

Job Duties
- Assist cooks in preparing, serving, and sanitation of the dining facility, equipment, and surfaces
- Set up and breakdown of serving line
- Keep the dining and kitchen area clean and organized
- Notify staff of items needing replenishment and restocking
- Rotate perishable items to ensure freshness
- Serve students, staff, and guests courteously and efficiently
- Assist with dishwashing and trash receptacle management
- Perform food preparation tasks including washing, peeling, cutting, seeding vegetables and fruits
- Clean, cut, and grind meats, poultry, and seafood
- Bread food items by dipping in crumbs, flour, and batter
- Stir and strain soups and sauces
- Weigh or measure designated ingredients
- Carry food pans, kettles, and trays
- Store food properly utilizing temperature knowledge
- Clean and sanitize kitchen areas, equipment, and utensils
- Distribute supplies and equipment
- Assist in inventory management
- Operate kitchen equipment like dishwasher, slicer, and mixer
- Follow all safety and sanitary food handling rules
- Maintain good housekeeping and sanitation
- Comply with organizational policies including Code of Conduct and Quality Assurance Plan
- Participate in mandated staff training
- Perform other duties as assigned
