Currently, Creative Dining Services is seeking a full-time Cook to join their Dining Services Department at St. Louis Catholic School in Memphis, TN. This role is pivotal to maintaining the nutritional standards and culinary quality delivered to the school community. The Cook is responsible for preparing high-quality, properly seasoned, and nutritious meals while adhering to food safety and fiscal responsibility guidelines. This position works as an integral part of the dining services team, contributing to all aspects of food preparation and kitchen operation to support a seamless food service experience. The shift is Monday through Friday from 7 am to 2 pm, offering stability and work-life balance for the successful candidate.
The Cook will be tasked with timing food production to ensure meals are served fresh and at the appropriate temperature. Utilizing batch cooking techniques, the Cook must manage food production efficiently to avoid waste or shortages. Established recipes and menus provide the framework to prepare meals that meet strict standards for freshness, quality, and appeal. Safe food handling is a critical aspect of this role, including the proper storage of food items with correct labeling and dating. Monitoring and maintaining food and equipment temperatures, logging production details such as food usage and customer counts, and maintaining a clean, organized workspace are also key responsibilities.
This position requires cooperative communication within the team and proactive reporting of any concerns related to kitchen operations or food production. Moreover, the Cook will assist in inventory and ordering procedures, support other kitchen staff, and ensure compliance with all workplace policies regarding safety and hygiene. Job Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years cooking experience
- high school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required
- ServSafe Certification
- availability to work Monday through Friday from 7 am to 2 pm
- ability to follow strict food safety and sanitation guidelines
- physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift kitchen equipment and supplies
- strong communication skills and ability to work cooperatively within a team
- willingness to adhere to uniform and workplace policies
Job Qualifications

Job Duties
- Time food production such that all food is ready at the time of service
- prepare food items according to established recipes and menus in a manner in which preserves food freshness, quality and appeal
- utilize batch cooking techniques to avoid over or under production
- utilize safe food handling techniques at all times
- store food items according to established standards of practice
- utilize proper labeling and dating
- hold prepared food items at appropriate temperatures below 40 degrees if cold and above 135 degrees if hot
- maintain production records including food usage overages shortages and customer counts
- maintain established logs such as food temperatures cooling temperatures cooler and freezer temperatures
- maintain a clean and sanitized work area
- follow established work rules and regulations including readiness for work in uniform at the scheduled time
- properly open and or close the kitchen if shift requires including unlocking locking doors and turning on/off equipment
- maintain a safe tidy and well-organized work environment
- quickly clean up spills and wear protective gear as needed
- communicate needs and concerns regarding food production and kitchen operation to supervisor timely
- monitor kitchen equipment for proper functioning and report discrepancies
- support other kitchen employees to ensure essential functions are performed adequately
- be proactive in communication and monitor communication posting areas
- assist management personnel in ordering and inventory procedures
- remove refuse as needed
- put away and pull stock as needed
