At the Concordia Theological Seminary location, the company is currently seeking a full-time Cook to join their dedicated Dining Services Department. This role focuses on providing nutritious, high-quality, and properly seasoned food that meets stringent safety and fiscal standards. The successful candidate will work collaboratively as a vital part of the dining services team, assisting in various facets of the food service operation to ensure a seamless dining experience for all patrons. The cook must expertly time food production so that all dishes are prepared and ready precisely when needed for service.
The working schedule for this position is Tuesday through Thursday from 8 AM to 4 PM, and Friday through Saturday from 10 AM to 7 PM, offering a structured yet varied workweek. The role also includes responsibilities such as preparing food according to established menus and recipes, utilizing batch cooking techniques to manage inventory effectively and minimize waste, and adhering to safe food handling and storage guidelines. The cook will maintain meticulous production records, including food usage, overages, shortages, and customer counts, ensuring operational efficiency and compliance with health standards.
In addition to core food preparation duties, the cook is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of the work area, following all established work rules and regulations, and supporting opening and closing procedures for the kitchen. Candidates must demonstrate a proactive attitude in communication, report any equipment malfunctions promptly, and collaborate effectively with kitchen staff to uphold essential functions.
This role is ideal for professionals with a minimum of two years of cooking experience, who have or are willing to obtain ServSafe certification. While a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred, it is not mandatory. Job Duties
- Time food production such that all food is ready at the time of service
- prepare food items according to established recipes and menus in a manner that preserves food freshness, quality and appeal
- utilize batch cooking techniques to avoid over or under production
- utilize safe food handling techniques at all times
- store food items according to established standards of practice
- utilize proper labeling and dating
- hold prepared food items at appropriate temperatures (below 40 degrees if cold, above 135 degrees if hot)
- maintain production records (food usage, overages, shortages, customer counts, etc.)
- maintain established logs (food temperatures, cooling temperatures, cooler and freezer temperatures, etc.)
- maintain a clean and sanitized work area
- follow established work rules and regulations
- be ready for work in the kitchen, in uniform, at the scheduled time
- properly open and/or close the kitchen as needed
- maintain a safe, tidy and well-organized work environment at all times
- communicate needs and concerns regarding food production and kitchen operation to supervisor appropriately and in a timely manner
- monitor kitchen equipment for proper functioning and report any discrepancies to supervisor immediately
- support other kitchen employees in assuring that essential kitchen functions are performed adequately and appropriately
- be proactive in communication
- monitor communication posting areas closely
- assist management personnel in ordering and inventory procedures
- removal of refuse as needed
- putting away and pulling stock as needed
