Job Description
Creative Dining Services at Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor is seeking a dedicated and skilled full-time Catering Cook to join their dynamic Dining Services Department. The Catering Cook role is pivotal in ensuring that high-quality, nutritious, and properly seasoned food is consistently provided throughout the dining service operations at Washtenaw Community College. This position requires a proactive team member who collaborates effectively with others to support various aspects of the dining services program. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing food on a timely schedule to meet service demands, preparing menu items according to standardized recipes to maintain freshness, flavor, and visual appeal, and utilizing batch cooking methods to optimize efficiency and minimize waste.
In this full-time position, typically involving a 40-plus hour workweek including days and weekends as needed for event schedules, the Catering Cook must adhere to strict food safety and sanitation standards. This includes practicing safe food handling techniques, proper storage and labeling of food items, and maintaining a clean, organized workspace. Additionally, the role involves assisting management with ordering and inventory procedures to support smooth and fiscally responsible kitchen operations.

- Time food production such that all food is ready at the time of service
- Prepare food items according to established recipes and menus in a manner which preserves food freshness, quality and appeal
- Utilize batch cooking techniques to avoid over or under production
- Utilize safe food handling techniques at all times
- Store food items according to established standards of practice

- Be proactive in communication
