The Cook position at Jefferson Health plays a vital role within the food service team, operating under the guidance of lead culinary staff such as the Lead Cook, Food Service Supervisor, Food Service Manager, Production Manager, or Executive Chef. The Cook is responsible for preparing food items according to standardized recipes to ensure superior food quality that meets established standards for flavor, texture, appearance, temperature, nutritional value, and palatability specifically for patients, staff, visitors, and catering guests. The categories of food preparation include entrees, soups, sauces, vegetables, and more. The role demands meticulous attention to safe food handling and sanitation aligned with health regulatory standards, including rigorous adherence to HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) protocols and recording requirements.

Duties include preparing and cooking select foods through various methods such as braising, sautéing, broiling, boiling, stewing, steaming, baking, and grilling to achieve correct cooking temperatures and times to maintain safety and quality. The Cook assembles ingredients, prepares recipes, and portions food accurately while labeling and dating items for storage or transportation, managing proper storage techniques and cooling processes to meet all safety guidelines. The role also involves maintaining HACCP and production records, monitoring food during service, ensuring timely food preparation, adhering to food quality standards, and managing leftovers appropriately to minimize waste. Additionally, the Cook is responsible for completing cleaning assignments to maintain the sanitation of cooking and serving areas and actively participating in department training and in-service programs to uphold operational standards. This position requires strong interpersonal skills to interact professionally with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with Jefferson's core values.

This role is ideal for a culinary professional with at least three years of food preparation experience who is committed to delivering high-quality meals in a healthcare environment. While a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred, it is not mandatory, emphasizing practical experience and communication skills. This full-time, regular position offers the opportunity to work at Jefferson's Albert Einstein Medical Center located in East Norriton, Pennsylvania. Job Duties

  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson
  • Competently prepare select foods for patients, staff and visitors that are of the highest quality, visually and taste
  • Professionally braise, saute, broil, boil, stew, steam, bake and grill to proper cooking time and temperature
  • Prepare and portions entrees, soups, and sauces and vegetables according to recipes and production orders
  • Records usage on production records to ensure foods are prepared correctly and costs are maintained
  • Assembles ingredients and prepares recipe
  • portion, label and date for storage or transport
  • Maintains proper handling, storage, cooling and delivery of food and supplies to ensure patient/customer safety using HACCP guidelines
  • Checks on food during service in the patient and non-patient areas to ensure there are no delays in service
  • Plans cooking and prepping schedule so that foods will be ready at specified times
  • Adheres to food quality standards of appearance, taste, temperature and sanitation
  • Stores leftovers appropriately and utilizes same in subsequent day/menu to ensure they are served within timeframe
  • Completes cleaning assignments in order to ensure that sanitation standards are maintained in cooking and serving areas
  • Participates in and attends all department in services to maintain department operating standards
  • Performs other duties as assigned
