The Cook position at Life Care plays a vital role in supporting the overall health and well-being of patients by preparing and serving nutritious, safe, and appealing meals in accordance with established dietary guidelines, laws, and Life Care's internal standards. This role is essential in facilitating patient recovery and comfort by ensuring that each meal meets specific dietary needs while maintaining taste and appearance standards. The Cook is responsible for handling large quantities of food, understanding different food consistencies required by ordered diets, and utilizing approved recipes and production tools to prepare meals and snacks efficiently.
This role requires a candidate with experience in food preparation in large quantities, excellent knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and patient rights, and the ability to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team. The ideal candidate must demonstrate integrity, professionalism, and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and compliance with company policies, including harassment and compliance procedures. The Cook is expected to exhibit excellent customer service skills and a positive attitude towards patients, while also being physically capable of performing various tasks such as sitting, standing, bending, lifting, and moving intermittently throughout the workday.

Job Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent
- one year experience in food preparation preferred
- experience in preparing and cooking food in large quantities
- ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action
- knowledge of practices and procedures as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines governing functions in post-acute care
- ability to implement and interpret department policies and procedures
- proficiency in patient rights, safety, and sanitation
- ability to maintain professional working relationships
- ability to maintain confidentiality of proprietary and confidential information
- understanding and following company policies including harassment and compliance procedures
- integrity and professionalism by adhering to Life Care's Code of Conduct and completing mandatory compliance training
Job Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent
- one year experience in food preparation preferred
- experience in preparing and cooking food in large quantities
- knowledge of practices and procedures as well as the laws, regulations, and guidelines governing functions in a post-acute care facility
- ability to follow company policies including harassment and compliance procedures
- good communication skills and ability to work on an interdisciplinary team
- proficiency in English language
Job Duties
- Prepare and serve meals that are appetizing in both taste and appearance and appropriate for each patient
- knowledgeable of ordered diets as well as food consistency
- ensure food and supplies for the next meal are readily available
- serve meals and snacks in a timely manner
- utilize production tools and recipes provided to prepare meals and snacks
- exhibit excellent customer service and a positive attitude towards patients
- assist in the evacuation of patients
