The Food and Nutrition Department at Cedar Mountain Commons, part of the Hartford HealthCare family, provides residents with restaurant-style dining every day of the year. Cedar Mountain Commons is a full-service community catering primarily to seniors who choose to live independently while benefiting from comprehensive amenities. The cook position at Cedar Mountain Commons involves preparing food according to selected menus, approved recipes, and production sheets with an emphasis on quantity cooking. The role requires completing the preparation of all dishes in a timely manner, ensuring all food items meet required serving temperatures and adhering strictly to health, sanitation, safety, HACCP, and food handling standards. Creativity is encouraged in garnishing, decorating, and developing new recipes under managerial guidance. This position rotates between two shifts: 6AM to 2:30PM and 10:30AM to 7:00PM, including weekends and holiday rotations, reflecting the dynamic and demanding nature of the food service operation in a senior living community.

The cook will report directly to the appropriate Food Services Manager and is integral to maintaining quality and cost containment standards. Through their role, cooks at Cedar Mountain Commons contribute significantly to the overall resident experience, supporting the community's mission to provide exceptional service in every interaction. This position is ideal for individuals with at least one year of cooking experience or three years of related food service experience who are committed to quality, teamwork, and continuous improvement. Being proficient in English for reading, writing, understanding, and speaking is essential to communicate effectively and ensure compliance with production and documentation standards.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • one year of cooking or three years of related food service experience
  • proficiency in English language
  • basic math skills
  • ability to work rotating shifts including weekends and holidays
  • capability to follow detailed recipes and food safety protocols
  • physical ability to stand for extended periods

Job Qualifications

  • able to read write understand and speak English
  • basic math skills for recipe quantity calculations
  • ability to adjust recipe quantities based on census or volume
