Job Description
Southwest Behavioral & Health Services (SB&H) is a prominent non-profit organization dedicated to providing comprehensive behavioral health services across numerous locations in the Phoenix metropolitan area, as well as rural counties including Maricopa, Gila, Pinal, Mohave, Coconino, and Yavapai. With over 115 sites and a workforce exceeding one thousand employees, SB&H boasts more than 40 years of experience serving communities by delivering compassionate and life-changing mental health support and recovery services. Their expansive network and longstanding reputation make them a vital resource for individuals seeking behavioral health assistance. SB&H fosters a culture they call "Empowered Belonging," which champions diversity, inclusion, and respect for individual experiences, ensuring every team member’s unique perspectives are valued and their voices heard. This mission extends to creating a workplace environment that promotes fairness, authentic connections, ongoing learning, and the psychological safety of all employees.
We are seeking a dedicated Chef to join our Inpatient facility within Community Recovery Services in Phoenix, AZ. This full-time role offers a starting pay rate of $18.01 per hour and provides an opportunity to work in a non-conventional healthcare environment where you will play a crucial role in supporting patient care through food service. As a Chef in this inpatient setting, you will be responsible for maintaining the onsite kitchen operations, ensuring that all food preparation complies with established safety and health regulations, and adhering to the Arizona Department of Health Services recommended food safety practices. You will manage inventory, food storage, rotation, waste management, and meal preparation independently while also collaborating as part of a team.
This position requires someone who is highly organized and conscientious about cleanliness, compliance, and dietary needs. Your meals will follow menus approved by licensed dietitians, and you will prepare breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks tailored to meet doctor-recommended diets, with sensitivity to the special dietary requirements of clients. The Chef will also support kitchen efficiency by conducting weekly product inventories to optimize ordering and reduce waste, managing food budgets responsibly, and maintaining kitchen equipment and workspaces in accordance with all licensure standards and health regulations.
In addition to meal preparation duties, the Chef will interface with clinical staff to ensure seamless delivery of dietary services, participate in menu planning discussions, and provide basic culinary skills training to clients as applicable. Maintaining professional standards in attire and conduct, overseeing preparation for required inspections, and keeping all necessary certifications current — including CPR, First Aid, TB screening, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, and Certified Food Service Manager credentials — are essential components of this role. By joining SB&H, you contribute not only to the nourishment but also to the overall wellbeing and recovery journey of the individuals served. This position offers a meaningful career path within a reputable organization committed to internal promotion, career development, and employee support.
