The role of Cook at Bright Horizons is integral to the health and growth of young children in the care centers. This position involves planning and preparing nutritious, family-style meals that meet approved menus, nutritional guidelines, and the needs of daily attendance. As a Cook, you will create consistent, comfortable mealtime routines that contribute to the well-being and learning of children, educators, and center staff alike. The work is hands-on and essential, encompassing everything from simmering wholesome soups to ensuring properly portioned meals are served. Additionally, the Cook is responsible for maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment by adhering to food safety, allergy management, sanitation, and health protocols. This role also includes managing food and supply inventories, placing orders with approved vendors, and collaborating closely with center staff to facilitate smooth daily meal service.

This is a full-time position based in Baltimore, MD, with a scheduled workweek from Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. Bright Horizons is committed to employee development, offering support to help individuals grow professionally while making a meaningful difference every day. The hourly wage for this position ranges from $15.05 to $17.00, depending on experience, education, certification, and other organizational factors. Physical requirements include the ability to lift and carry food and supplies (typically 10 to 40 pounds, occasionally up to 50 pounds) and the stamina to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive kitchen tasks. Bright Horizons also emphasizes compliance with health and safety regulations, requiring background checks, immunizations, and a food handler certification within 30 days of hire.

Joining Bright Horizons means becoming part of a community that values your contributions and supports your whole self. From caregiving resources for family members to financial planning tools and a robust retirement plan, employees are provided with extensive benefits. The environment encourages mental and physical alertness and fosters immediate and appropriate responses to situations or emergencies, securing both child and staff safety. By becoming a Cook at Bright Horizons, you are not just preparing meals; you are fueling young minds and contributing to a brighter future for children and families in the community. This role offers a blend of responsibility, care, and opportunity, ideal for individuals passionate about culinary arts, nutrition, and early childhood support.
