As a part of this vibrant educational community, the role of Cook at Marymount University is pivotal in maintaining high standards of food service across campus dining facilities. This position is an in-person, hourly-paid role based in Arlington, VA, offering a competitive wage of $24.00 per hour. The Cook is responsible for preparing, portioning, cooking, and presenting a wide variety of hot and cold food items for meal services and catered special events. The role requires adherence to federal, state, and corporate food safety guidelines to ensure quality and safe food preparation processes. The Cook supports a positive dining experience through attentive food preparation, maintaining cleanliness, and operational efficiency.
Working within a diverse and fast-paced university dining service, the Cook must be prepared to operate kitchen equipment, follow recipes accurately, and adjust to various food preparation demands, including accommodating special diets. The position involves collaborating with kitchen staff and management to meet production needs, forecast food requirements, and assist in maintaining inventory records. Safety, hygiene, and compliance with HACCP policy are critical elements of this role, as well as participation in safety training and consistent reporting of accidents or risky conditions.
This position also requires a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and some holidays. Job Duties
- Prepares and cooks to order foods that may require short preparation time
- may prepare food and serve customers at an a la carte and operate a grill station
- prepares food in accordance with federal, state and corporate standards, guidelines and regulations
- reads food orders or receives verbal instructions and prepares and cooks food accordingly
- provides the highest quality service to customers at all times
- follows recipes and product directions for preparing, seasoning, cooking, tasting, carving and serving various foods
- operates kitchen equipment to measure and mix ingredients, wash, peel, cut and shred fruits and vegetables, and trim and cut meats for culinary use
- tastes products, reads menus, estimates food requirements, checks production and keeps records to plan production and requisition supplies
- cleans and sanitizes work stations and equipment
- attends allergy and foodborne illness training
- complies with all HACCP policies and procedures
- reports accidents and injuries timely
- complies with safety and risk management policies
- participates in safety meetings, training and hazard assessments
- attends classroom and virtual training programs
- may move and lift foodstuffs and prepare meals for special diets
