This specific opportunity is for a Cook position located onsite in Palmer, Alaska. The role demands the preparation and cooking of meals for the Center, adhering strictly to preplanned menus, established budgets, and compliance with government, corporate, and management regulations. Acting as the lead for assistant cooks, helpers, and work-based learning students at the Center, the cook is responsible not only for meal preparation but also for overseeing the training and hygiene standards of the food service team. The position pays $22.48 per hour plus an additional $5.09 per hour to offset elected benefits, with work hours from Monday to Friday, 5:00 am to 1:30 pm. Employees are eligible to participate in a company 401(k) retirement plan with matching after one year of employment. Additional benefits include vacation time starting at ten days per year, sick time accrued at one hour per 30 worked, and twelve paid holidays annually. The position requires a high level of responsibility, ensuring meal quality and safety, kitchen cleanliness, efficient food utilization, and appropriate storage of leftovers. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • One year experience in the food service industry
  • Successfully pass any background check and drug test required on the contract
  • Must be able to obtain a ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification within 30 days of employment

Job Duties

  • Prepare and cook quantity of food required according to menu and number of students or staff
  • Assist in instructing cook helpers and student food services trainees in the safe, hygienic method of preparing and serving appetizing, appealing meals
  • Ensure work area is safe, clean, and sanitary at all times
  • Prepare foods as directed for special Center functions and visitors
  • Assist in cleaning kitchen work areas and cafeteria following each meal
  • Ensure minimum waste through efficient storage, inventory, and food utilization
  • Help cook and serve meals, ensuring that prepared foods are held and served at proper temperatures, and all leftover foods are properly chilled and stored
