As a premier health system, RWJBarnabas Health offers patient-centered, high-quality academic medicine in a compassionate and equitable manner. The organization prioritizes creating healthier communities through innovative strategies, education, and research. RWJUH Hamilton Hospital operates various departments, including the Dietary Management Department, which plays a crucial role in supporting patient care and community nutrition through meal preparation and services such as Meals on Wheels and hospital café operations. RWJBarnabas Health values its employees and supports their physical, emotional, financial, and professional wellbeing through comprehensive benefits and resources.

The role of Cook at RWJUH Hamilton Hospital is an essential position within the Dietary Management Department, responsible for preparing, seasoning, and cooking food for hospital patients, the hospital café, meals on wheels programs, and special functions both on and off site. This position requires maintaining a sanitary and safe work environment while adhering to all state and local health codes. The hourly wage range for this full-time day shift position is $16.00 to $19.00 per hour, depending on the candidate’s educational background, skills, and professional experience.

The Cook is expected to prepare the required amount of food daily by consistently following recipes and frequently tasting the food to ensure quality. The role involves taking food temperatures daily and properly storing and labeling all food items. As part of the responsibilities, the Cook follows a daily and weekly cleaning schedule and demonstrates five-star standards when interacting with staff, patients, and customers. The ideal candidate will prepare fresh products daily, review production sheets, minimize waste, rotate food items using FIFO (first in, first out) methods, ensure foods are kept at proper holding temperatures, and perform batch cooking effectively.

In addition to cooking, the Cook is responsible for daily signage and specials, operating other kitchen stations as needed, and attending departmental and hospital meetings. Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 75 pounds. This role is critical in supporting timely, nutritious, and high-quality food services that contribute to patient satisfaction and overall hospital operations. The position also requires flexibility to adapt to changing duties and responsibilities as necessary, ensuring a smooth and efficient food service experience.

By joining RWJBarnabas Health as a Cook, employees become part of a mission-driven team that values high standards and community impact. The employer offers an engaging work environment supported by comprehensive benefits, including paid time off, retirement plans, extensive medical, dental and vision insurance, life and disability coverage, tuition reimbursement, and wellness programs.
